    3. Samuel A. Beatty, Co. "I" 5th Tenn. Cavalry and Co. "F" & "D" 7th U. S. Infantry; widow Ada Beatty (application # 546,889) On June 2nd 1894 Ada Beatty aged 44 and a resident of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio filed a widow's claim for pension. She is the widow of Samuel A. Beatty who enlisted Oct. 27, 1864 in Company "I" of the 5th Regt. Of Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry in the war with the Rebellion and who died October 23, 1893. Ada's maiden name was Ada Morrow and she married Samuel A. Beatty at Wooster, Ohio on July 16, 1872. She had one child under the age of 16 at the time of Samuel's death: Harry Beatty born Nov. 2, 1878. Mrs. Frances E. Morrow and Joseph A. Parker witness Ada's signature on the application. The War Department record showed that Samuel Beatty deserted March 11, 1865 while on duty near Huntsville, Alabama. Since Samuel reenlisted July 2, 1866 in Co. "D" 7 U. S. Infantry and served to July 2, 1869 there is an attempt to get the "desertion" claim removed from his file. Frances Morrow, aged 67 and Anna Jackson aged 42, both residents of Toledo state "claimant is daughter and sister respectively of affiants. We knew the soldier for four years prior to his marriage to Adelaid Morrow. She had never before been married, nor had the soldier been married, within our knowledge, he was about 18 to 19 years old when our acquaintance began. In looking over papers, we find a discharge certificate showing that he had served in Co. "D" 7th U. S. Infantry from July 2nd 1866 to July 2nd 1869." There is a death record from Toledo, Ohio showing that Samuel died Oct. 25, 1893 at the age of 41. He died at Mo Pace Hospital, St. Louis and was interred at Forest-Toledo, Ohio. This claim was abandoned. 1880 Lexington, Stark Co., Ohio, p79A Saml.
