    3. George W. Beatty, Company "I" 49th PA Infantry, mother Parmelia (Certificate # 46,207) On January 16th, 1865 Parmelia Beatty, aged 51 and a resident of Perryville, Juniata County, Pennsylvania filed a "Mother's Declaration for Pension." Parmelia states that she is the mother of George W. Beatty, who was a Private in Company "I" commanded by Captain DeWitt in the 49th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers and who was killed at Spottsylvania, Virginia on May 12, 1864. Parmelia is the widow of Joseph Beatty who died on October 15, 1863. Parmelia and Joseph were married at Bloomfield, Perry County, Pennsylvania on February 28, 1830. John W. Stevenson and George W. Anderson, both of Juniata County, affirm the date of Joseph's death. They also state "Parmelia Beatty has two minor children, one of which is a boy aged 18 years now in the military service of the United States." Letter dated: Huntingdon Pa., April 8, 1887 Sir, I have the honor to report that in pursuance of your letter of instructions of April 1, 1887, I called on Mrs. Mary H. Baldwin, daughter of the above named pensioner and obtained from her the pension check which came into her hands after her mother's death. Mrs. Beatty was 74 years of age at the time of her death and left no children under 16 years of age. She appears to have left no estate. There is no mortuary record in this county, kept by the municipal, county or state authorities. Mrs. Beatty was not a native of Huntington, and her body was taken to Juniata County to be buried, so that I am unable to say whether there is any church record of the date of her death, or not. I respectfully submit the depositions of three persons who were present when she died as sufficient proof of the date. I enclose check for $36 dated Pittsburg, March 12, 1887, payable to Parmelia Beatty and signed by Russell Errett, U. S. Pension Agent. Very Respectfully, James P. Matthews Special Examiner The three people present at Parmelia's death were: 1) Josephine Cheney, 50 years old and wife of Alfred Cheney. She was a close neighbor of Mrs. Baldwin. 2) Jennie Atherton, 36 years old and wife of John Atherton. She lives five doors from Mrs. Baldwin. 3) Mary H. Baldwin, 37 years old, widow of A. W. Baldwin and daughter of Parmelia Beatty. Mary states that Jennie Atherton, Josephine Cheney Mrs. Smith and her daughter Mary R. Baldwin were present when Parmelia Beatty died. Mary states that she is the youngest child of Parmelia Beatty. 1850, Saville Township, Perry County, PA, page 311 Joseph Beaty 47 PA Amelia 39 PA Martha J. 19 PA Robert J. 17 PA Margaret A. 14 PA Geo W. 11 PA Sara E. 9 PA Amelia (?) 7 PA Joseph S. 5 PA Hannah 1 PA 1860 Milford Township, Juniata County, PA page 685 Joseph Baty 57 Carpenter PA Pamelia 52 PA Margaret A. 24 George W. 21 Samuel C. 19 Pamelia 16 Joseph 15 Hannah 12 1870 Juniata County, Perryville, PA page 432 a Parmelia Beaty 59 Mary 21 Sample 25 1880 Port Royal, Juniata County, PA, page 460B Sample Beatty 36 PA PA PA Pamelia wife 30 PA PA PA George son 4 Viginia dau 2 Pamelia mother 68 PA PA PA Laurel Baty, L252
