Beatty, John N., Company "D", 40th PA Infantry, mother Sallie (Application # 48,179) On March 19, 1864 Sallie Beatty a resident of Summit Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania states that she is the "wife of John Beatty a resident of said township County and States, who is an old man and who for the last fifteen years has been unable to properly support his family; that said unfitness arises from infirmities of age hastened by a life of dissipation, that said husband still lives with her the aforesaid Mrs. Sallie Beatty but who lends but little towards her support and whose assistance in the natural order of things must soon cease; that she is the mother of John N. Beatty who was a Private in Company "D" in the 11th Regt of Pennsylvania Reserve Vol Corp in the war of 1861, who was killed at Gaines Hill in the State of Virginia on or about the 27th of June 1862 in Battle." Sallie states "And above all that she looked to her said son for comfort and support in the decline of life which has already set in." On September 18, 1871 Sarah Beatty, a resident of Oakland, Butler County, Pennsylvania, aged 71 filed a Mother's Claim for Pension. She states that she is the mother of John Neyman Beatty who was a private in Company "D" commanded by Capt. Stewart in "the 11th Res." of Penn. Volunteers in the war of 1861 who was killed in the Battle of Gaines-Hill, Virginia June 27, 1862. Sarah states that her husband, John Beatty, died on May 14, 1871.
