Robert Beatty, Company "E" 30th Iowa Infantry, widow Angelina Beatty, Guardian W. Casteel (minor's certificate #130,141) On January 4th, 1864 Angelina Beaty, aged 32 and residing near Tannery, Preston County, West Virginia filed a widow's claim for Army Pension. Angelina states that she is the widow of Robert Beaty, "late of Washington County, State of Iowa," who was a 2nd Sergeant in Company "E" commanded by Capt. William Burgess in the 30th Regiment of Iowa Volunteer Infantry and who died November 9, 1862 at Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa of sickness while in the service of the United States. Angelina Kelley married Robert Beaty on April 3, 1851 at her father's House in Preston County, West Virginia. Robert Beaty had three children under the age of sixteen at his death: James E. Beaty age 11; Joseph A. Beaty, age 7 years; Robert P. Beaty aged 2 years. All of the children now reside near Tannery, West Virginia. William T. Kelley and Maria H. Kelley state that they were present at the wedding of Angelina and Robert Beaty. There is a Certificate of Marriage written by William Smith of Morgan County, Ohio and dated August 13, 1864 stating that Wm Smith, Minister of the Gospel of the Methodist Episcopal Church married Robert Beaty and Angelina Kelley on April 3, 1851 at Preston, Virginia. William Burgess, late Captain of Company "E" 30th Regiment of Iowa Infantry states on January 18, 1866: "Robert Beaty deceased late a Sergeant in Company "E" 30th Regiment of Iowa Vols was taken with chronic Disentry (sic) terminating in paralysis while at Keokuk Lee County, Iowa on or about November 9th 1862 which was the cause of his being sent to Estus hospital in Keokuk, Iowa that said disease was caused by exposure in camp and contracted while in the Service of the United States." A marriage License from Preston County West Virginia for William Casteel (28 years old and single) and Angeline B. Beatty (32 years old and widowed), both of whom were born in Preston County, Virginia is in the file. William' s parents are listed as Thos and Hulda Casteel and Angeline's father's name is given as Joseph Kelley (her mother's name is not given). The marriage between Angeline Beatty and William Casteel occurred on April 19, 1866. William S. Casteel was appointed guardian to the minor heirs of Robert Beaty (James E., Joseph A. and Robert P. Beaty) on March 19, 1867 in Allegheny County, Maryland. On August 30, 1867 Sarah Beatty, aged 53 and a resident of Washington County, Iowa states that she was in attendance at the birth of James E. and Robert P. Beatty. On October 1, 1867 Dorcus Kelley, aged 67 and a resident of Preston County, West Virginia states that she was in attendance as a midwife in the birth of James E., Joseph A. and Robert P. Beatty. On January 18, 1869 William S. Casteel, aged 30 and a resident of Allegheny County, Maryland, applied for Pension as Guardian of the minor children of Robert Beatty. He gives the following date of birth for the minor heirs of Robert Beatty: James E. born June 7, 1852, Joseph A. born May 26, 1856, Robert P. born July 31, 1861. Pension was granted and commenced Nov. 9, 1862 and continued until the youngest heir, Robert P.
