It looks like a lot of Batys from Dubois County, Indiana came from Hawkins County, Tennessee. Does anyone claim these Beatys in their lineage? I assume these Batys are related to the Rev War soldier Walter Beaty who died in Hawkins County Tennessee. Does anyone have more information on the descendants of Walter? I sure would like to see some of this Beaty DNA tested!--L. Baty, L252 Robert M. Beaty, Co. "C" 146th Indiana Infantry; widow Sarah Beaty, B. A. Simmons, Guardian (Widow's Certificate #94,911, Minor's Certificate #171,947) There is a form called "Commissioned Officer's Certificate of Soldier's death." It gives the following description of Robert M. Beaty "He was born in Hawkins County, in the State of Tennessee is 43 years of age, 5 feet 9 ¾ inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, black hair and by occupation a farmer." On October 31, 1865 Sarah Beaty aged 37 and a resident of Hillham, Dubois Co., Indiana filed a claim for a Widow's Army pension. Sarah states that she is the widow of Robert M. Beaty who was a Sergeant in Company "C" commanded by Captain Sims in the 146th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers in the War of 1861 and who died from chronic diarrhea contracted in the service at Baltimore, Maryland on August 15, 1865. Robert Beaty and Sarah White were married in Dubois County, Indiana on October 30, 1862. Sarah had the following children under the age of 16 at the time of death of her husband: Lousena Beaty, aged seven years, Evaline Beaty aged two years, Robert Beaty aged 6 months. On February 27th 1867 Sarah Beaty aged 40 and living in Hillham, Dubois County, Indiana files for an increase in widow's pension. She states that her two children by Robert Beaty are Evaline born August 6, 1863 and Robert Beaty born Feb. 2, 1865. She also states that her husband had a child by a former wife: Louzena Beaty born Nov. 24, 1857. Robert Beaty married three times: Phoebe Beaty his first wife died Oct. 4, 1854 (date of marriage not given); Sarah Beaty, second wife, married Robert Beaty on April 23, 1855, she died Feb. 3, 1861; Sarah Whit married Robert Beaty on October 30, 1862, she died March 6, 1873. At Sarah Beaty's death (third wife) Benjamin Simmons is appointed guardian of the minor children of Robert M. Beaty. Hester Harris and Martha E. Simmons were present at the birth of Louzenia Beaty on Nov. 24, 1857. They also state the date of death of Pheby Beaty, first wife of Robert, as 3 or 4th of October 1854. Hester Harris was midwife at the birth of Louzenia. Benjamin A. Simmons, Esau White and Nancy J. White make the following statement: "Robert M. Baty and Sarah Baty was married April 33, 1855, Luzena Baty was bornd November the 24th 1857 Sarah Beaty died February the 3 1861 this being his former wife Sarah Beaty died March the 6th 1873 this being Robert M. Beaty last." On August 3rd 1874 Benjamin A. Simmons filed a claim for children under the age of 16. he states that he is the guardian of Louzena Beaty and that Robert M. Beaty married Sarah Beaty (had been previously married). James Ellis and David Beaty are witnesses on this form. He files a separate form for the minor children of Sarah White Beaty. Esau White and Joseph Nicholson witness this form. Another form states "the said widow of said Robert M. Beaty had the care and custody of Louzinia Beaty a child by a former marriage up to July 1866 since that time the said Louzinia Beaty has made her home at James M.
