Andrew J. Beaty, Company "B" 2nd Tennessee Infantry, widow Jane, J. Gunter, guardian (certificate #130,712) Jane Beaty aged 30 and a resident of Clinton County, Kentucky applied for a widow's Army Pension on May 20, 1865. She is the widow of Andrew J. Beaty who was a Private in Company B commanded by Captain Millsaps in the 2nd Regiment of East Tennessee Infantry Volunteers in the War of 1861 and who died at Belle Island, Virginia in February of 1864 {soldier was a Prisoner of war, captured at Rogersville, Tennessee Nov. 6, 1863). Jane and Andrew were married on Dec. 24, 1854. Jane's Post Office address is Albany, Clinton County, Kentucky and her domicile is Fentress County, Tennessee. "She has two children issue of the above name soldier (viz) John A. Beaty born April 26 day 1860 and James Beaty born Dec. 8, 1863. In November of 1868 Jane Gunter, aged 31 and a resident of Fentress County, Tennessee filed an application for an Army Pension as guardian of minor children. She states that she is the guardian of John A. Beaty who is a minor child of Andrew J. Beaty. She states that she is the mother of John A. Beaty and that she married William Gunter on July 18, 1866. John A. Beaty was born April 26, 1861 (different date from 1st application). Rebecca Ragin and Mary Tutor state that they were present at the birth of John A. Beaty: "we further state that we acted as nurses at the birth of said child & that it is the only heir of said soldier." John F. Beaty and Rebecca Ragin of Fentress & Overton Counties state that "they are well acquainted with Jane Beaty, widow of Andrew J. Beaty who was a Private Co "B" 2nd Regt Tenn. Vols that they were married on the 24th day of Dec. 1854 by one Joseph Beckman, a Justice of the Peace of Overton County Tenn." A clerk from Overton County states "no record of the marriage of Andrew J. Baty with Jane Ragin is now in existence in my office such records having been destroid (sic) during the late rebellion." Joseph Beckman states "on or about the 24th day of December 1854 in the county of Overton, Tennessee he solemnized the rites of Matrimony between A. J. Beaty and Jane Reggan." A copy of the marriage record of Jane Beaty to William Gunter is in this file-the marriage occurred in Fentress County, Tennessee. Jane Gunter states "the reason why the child James was not mentioned in the Guardians application is that said child died before the passage of the law allowing $2.00 per month for minors under sixteen years." 1860 Fentress County Tennessee, District 11, page 58 Andrew J.
