I thought I would add a note on the content of these files: Many of the Bounty Land Claims contain little information of Genealogical interest, perhaps only stating an age, date and place of residence along with the date of enlistment and unit served in. Other files can be quite lengthy--the most informative are usually claims by a widow, since proof of death of the soldier and proof of marriage is required. Sometimes only an original Discharge is in the file; these discharges can vary tremendously. Sometimes the original discharge will list place of birth and physical characteristics, but sometimes the Discharge is simply a handwritten note by the Company Commander. A few original Discharges were professionally printed forms and contain an emblem, usually an eagle motif. L.
