Forwarded from Marv Beatty Lineage 44: Dear Cousins far and wide, Earlier this year Earl Beaty, who administers the Beatty DNA project suggested that we would make more progress obtaining male Beattys for ychromsome DNA tests if there were a fund to help defray part or all of the cost of the standard 25 marker ychromosome test. This endeavor has been publicized in the Beatty DNA website, and a fund of $394.67 has been accumulated. With this modest bankroll we are asking everyone in the BP2000 project to consider doing one or more of the following: 1) locate one or more living male Beattys in your lineage whose DNA data would be likely to help solve a genealogical mystery, 2) encourage that (those) man/men to consider submitting DNA for testing by Family Tree DNA, the commercial firm that does the testing for the Beatty DNA project, 3) make a donation to the Beatty DNA Fund so that more male Beattys who lack financial resources can be tested. Here's how to proceed: For numbers 1) and 2) above, go to the Beatty DNA website http://www.egroups.com/groupGenMatch and read the information there to become familiar with that project and its results to date, then contact one or more male Beattys and encourage them to consider becoming part of the group of Beatty men who have been tested (~43 to date). If cost appears to be a barrier to their participation please contact me to see if the Beatty DNA Fund mentioned above can help them become a participant; for number 3) above: if you want to sponsor the cost of a 25 marker y chromosome test for a male Beatty yourself contact Family Tree DNA www.familytreedna.com and they will allow you to request a test kit and pay via credit card or check. Be sure to mention that the test is part of the Beatty surname project. If you wish to donate to the Beatty DNA fund that will be used to pay for 25 marker y chromosome DNA tests of male Beattys you can send money to the Beatty DNA Pay Pal account at my email address above, or mail checks payable to Beatty DNA to Marvin T.
