    1. [BP2000] Question about Ships
    2. All, I have a question (maybe more than one) for an immigration/ship expert. I have a newspaper 'bio' about a William Brown. According to the article, he said that he left Belfast, Ireland on April 3, 1840 on board the "Consbrook, a sailing vessel, and with 364 fellow passengers." He landed in Canada and then went to Chicago and on to Iowa. The article was published in 1908, so William was up in years when it was written. Thus, his memory might be foggy. There is a record of the Consbrook sailing from Belfast to Canada in May 1839 with 308 passengers. But, no 1840 record has been found. I haven't checked the "Passenger and Immigration Lists Index" down at the library yet. But, my question is, is it likely that a ship would make two trips to the Americas on consecutive years? Or, did they normally need more time to refit and prepare for the next trip? The info in the newspaper article seems strangely precise for man in his 90s (dates, numbers, etc.). So, naturally I am skeptical. Les Beaty, L-20

    3. Hi Les, I was going to try to find your ship for you at ancestry.com.. but couldn't figure out how to look for ships.. Anyway... My 3rd cousin Karl Marx Bonstein 96 yrs old who just died this last spring would have taken offense.. His mind was very sharp and his memory when he discussed the past was unfailing.. So perhaps your Beatty was sharp minded too..
