    3. This is a family I've seen in books for many years. Using the 1906 Hist of Westmoreland co., PA and other sources I put the family together. They marry into some of the very early colonial families but came to the US in 1826. Rather amazing how those Beatties' liked the Pattersons. If anyone wants a .ged file let me know. Beattie, "A" 38 Pa Infantry, Mother Elizabeth (#163,627) In 1868 Elizabeth Beattie a resident of Newtownbreda(?) County of Down, Ireland aged 65 applies for a Mother's pension. She is the mother of James P. Beattie who was a 1st Lieutenant in Company "A" commanded by Captain Smith of the 9th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserve Corps in the war of 1861 and who was killed at White Oak Swamp, Virginia on or about the 28th day of June 1862 in action. She is the widow of Robert W. Beattie, whom she married at Drumbo Parish County Down, Ireland on June 30, 1826. Robert Beattie died on November 14, 1859. There is an extract from the Marriage Register parish of ???Co of Down, Ireland: "1826, June 30 Robert Welsh Beaty & Elizabeth Patterson both of this parish, by license" Elizabeth states "now one daughter only lives with her, and that since her husbands' death, and the death of her promising sons the aforesaid James P. Beattie and her son John D. Beattie Corporal also in the Northern Army who was killed near Spottsylvania about the 1st of June 1864 she has suffered much, and has not that vigour of mind and body she once possessed. That she finds great difficulty in obtaining the means to support a comfortable subsistence since the contributions to her support from her son ceased." In 1870, Eliza Beattie aged 66 a resident of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania sates she applied for a pension "after her son's death while she was a resident of Ireland in the Kingdom of Great Britain." James Shaw and John Beatty are witnesses to her signature. They state "we knew John D. Beattie another son of said Eliza Beattie, the claimant, and that he the said John D. enlisted as a Private in Company "G" 102 Regt. REED: 200 Years of History in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania By The Bicentennial History Committee Published by the New Alexandria Bicentennial Committee in Cooperation with the Community of New Alexandria, Pennsylvania BEATTIE FAMILY Robert Beattie emigrated to the New Alexandria area from Ireland. It was here that he met Mary E. Reed, who was a descendant of James Reed. James Reed was born in 1710, and came to Pennsylvania in 1728. It was here in Pennsylvania that he met and married Margaret Floyd. When Margaret was a child her family was attacked by Indians. Her parents put her on a horse and sent her away from the cabin, thus saving her life, for they were both killed. James and Margaret (Floyd) Reed were the parents of the following children: James, Joseph, Samuel, Benjamin, John, Thomas, Sarah, and Mary. Another descendant of James and Margaret Reed was Samuel Miller Reed. He was the son of General William Reed. It was Samuel Miller reed who built the Old Stone Inn in 1800. Robert Beattie decided to return to Ireland where he then sent for Mary E. Reed to join him. It was in Ireland that they were married and two of their children were born. They then returned here and settled on a farm three miles east of New Alexandria. This farm is now known as the Pignocco farm. Robert Beattie's brother Joshua Beattie lived on a farm close by; this farm is now known as the Harry Elliot farm. Robert and Mary (Reed) Beattie had the following children: Elizabeth J., William R., R. Campbell, Anna who married James Gibson, James P., and Martha C. William Reed Beattie, born in Ireland 1866, son of Mary Reed and Robert Beattie, married Anna Patterson. Anna Patterson was the daughter of Rebecca and Robert Patterson. She is mentioned in the history of the Patterson family, and was a direct descendant of Jane Craig. William and Anna (Patterson) Beattie had the following children: A. Lena M. Beattie, married J. Herbert Fennell. 1. Nelda M. Fennell married A. Alan Bowman a. Vicki Lynne Bowman, married Dean Walters. (1.) Brandy Deane Walters 2. James H. Fennell, married Veronica Strycula B. R.
