    3. I just found this-haven't studied it. See Rachel Mackey below: where Ann Mackey Beatty's children would be in 1843. Donna L-3 Ann's sister??????????? Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 19:37:30 EDT From: <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Subject: [OHFAIRFI-L] How did they get there? Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1" It is great that there is so much information on how our families got to Fairfield County, Ohio. In addition, I could use some help finding out this information: I am looking to prove the father of William J. Meeks (born on March 2, 1800, in Fairfield County, Ohio) and obtain his parents names. I have determined (and am positive) that my GGG-GF is William J. Meeks, Sr., he was born on March 2, 1800, in Fairfield County, Ohio and died on 9/8/1875 in Fulton County, Ohio. He was married to Rachel Carr, who was born on 12/17/1798 in PA and she died on 8/15/1884 in Fulton County, Ohio. Their son, George Meeks, my GG-GF, was born in PA in July of 1824. Their other children were: Sarah, who was born in York County, PA on 3/8/1827 Hannah, who was born in OH around 1830 William J. Meeks, Jr., who was born 4/4/1832 in Salt Creek Township, Wayne County, OH. Eliza, who was born in OH around 1834 Margaret, who was born in OH around 1837 Maria, who was born in OH on 6/11/1842 and died 1/15/1862 in Wauseon Ohio They had 3 other children that I do not know their names. The family lived in Wayne County, Ohio for many years and then moved to Fulton County, Ohio. I believe that William J. Meeks' parents may have been William MEEKS (Sometimes spelled without the "s" as Meek), born in PA in 1769 and died in Wayne County Ohio in 1813 and Rachel MACKY (Meeks) born in PA. I do not have any of their children's names or much information. This William's father and mother were Samuel Meeks, II and Catherine Parkison. They lived in Columbiana County, Ohio from about 1797 on. *************************** I have the following information on Rachel Mackey. Her father is James MACKEY. Information on his family is: MACKEY, James Peters Twp. (Washington County, PA) E-274 Aug term 1843 #3 Wife: Mary Children: Andrew of Wayne Co., Ohio James of Elizabethtown, MD Mary, w/o Samuel Slemons of Wooster, Ohio Rachel, w/o William MEEKS of Wooster, Ohio Martha, w/o James Ralston of Cadiz, Ohio Elizabeth, w/o Samuel Kerr (their children: Catherine, w/o James Beverton; James of Peters twp., Washington Co., PA; Thomas of Ohio; Andrew of Monroe Co., Ohio and 3 other children deceased-no issue); Katherine, w/o James Kerr (no issue); Ann, w/o George Beatty- (their children: John of Dunbar Twp., Fayette Co., PA.; Mary, w/o George Robert Stevenson of Sewickley, Allegheny Co., PA.; George of Louisville, KY.; Robert, dec'd and William of Tyrone Twp., Fayette Co., Pa.) William and Rachel (MACKY) Meek/Meeks, lived in the area of Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio in the time period from 1810 - 1813 and Rachel untill just after 1830. ************************** (As listed above) I know that this William's father was Samuel Meeks II b. 1752 in Pa. and and his mother was Catherine Parkison. Samuel and Catherine married on 15 July 1768. This Samuel (II) father was also Samuel Meeks (I) /Meek and he was married to Charity (BOYD) their children appear to be-- John Samuel William Richard Mary m Joseph Beedle Elizabeth m John Hardesty Jacob Samuel and Catherine's children appear to be Samuel William John Robert Margaret m William Magner Samuel and Charity's children are listed in Samuel's Will. Samuel and Catherine's children are from Cumberland County, PA baptisms (Wm, Robert and Samuel). Margaret is listed as a daughter in a Deed; John is also listed in a Deed--tho no relationship is stated. I did find this info: Database: Cumberland County, Pennsylvania Church Records John Conrad Bucher's Pastoral Record, Cumberland and Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 1763-1769 Surname: Meek Given Name: Samuel Title: Description: Groom Event: Marriage Date: 26 7 1768 Place: Cumberland Co., PA Remarks: Surname: Meek Given Name: Wm. Surname: Meek Given Name: Katharine Title: Description: Mother Event: Baptism Date: Place: Remarks: Near Kingston and about ten miles from Harrisburg, on the farm of Joseph Junken. Catherine Parkison is the daughter of William Parkison, born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1720, died in 1902. William had 11 children, most of whom ended up in the Washington County, Pennsylvania area. The present town of Monongahela, Pennsylvania (a few miles south of Pittsburgh) was originally known as Parkison's Ferry, founded by Joseph Parkison, a son of William. This is the information from Rachel CARR Meeks will. RACHEL MEEKS of Clinton tp. signed Mar. 14, 1882 Pro. Auf. 20, 1884. She died Aug. 16, 1884, Her heirs: son, George MEEKS of Murray, Ind. " William " of Wauseon, O. (one WM. MEEKS of Clinton tp. d Sept. 14, 1885 at age 53 yr, b Saltcreek Tp. Wayne Co) dau. SARAH SCOTT, of Wauseon, O. To granddau. Mrs. BETT WATSON , my best bed and bedding To granddau Mrs. Minnie Scott $60.00 Wit. by H.S. MOSELEY & ADDIE B. MOSELEY son, WM MEEKS brought the Will into court. This information is from an obit from William Meeks Jr.-(William J. Meeks' son) Sep 19 (1885)--William MEEKS died in Wauseon Sep 14th. He was born at Salt Creek, Wayne Co., OH, Apr 4, 1832, married Helen M. RUSSELL, Oct 4, 1855, in Wooster, and moved to Wauseon in 1856. His wife died Jan 7, 1857, and onDec 2, 1858, he married secondly in Wauseon, Mary J. CORNELL, who died Jan 15, 1882." >From another source, a copy of the obit of William, Sr. and Rachel's, daughter, Sarah, who had married James SCOTT. "Sarah MEEKS was born in York, York Co., PA Mar 8,1827. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Wayne Co., O, where she continued to reside till grown to young womanhood, when on the 9th day of Nov 1846 she was united in marriage to James SCOTT, and moved to the place where Wauseon now stands. Also, the Estate Settlement for William MEEK/MEEKS, d 1813, was in Columbiana Co., OH. The Rachel MEEK/MEEKS, who is this William's widow, lived in Wooster, Wooster twp., Wayne Co., OH before moving to Richland Co., OH. William Meek/Meeks died in Plain Township. Wayne County, Ohio in 1813, old land records show a land transaction on July 7th, 1813 for 160 acres in Plain Township section 20 for William Meek. (I have not been able to obtain that record to know what is recorded. I do know it exists) The court record was a Partition Record. I do not find any record of a Will--so he probably died Intestate. It is believed that after William Meek/Meeks died Rachel had a boarding house in Wooster, Ohio until after 1830 and then moved to Richland County, Ohio. Possibly moving at the time when her brother-in-law (or son) John Meeks moved to Richland County, Ohio. I found this request in the Allen County Library: Need information on Rachel (Mackey) Meeks, shown in Wooster Twp. Wayne Co. Ohio in 1820 and 1830 Census as head of Household. Not shown in 1840. Believe she was the widow of William Meek/Meeks who died in 1813 at age 44 years. The 1820 census shows 5 children, and a John Meeks lived next door to Rachel on both 1820 and 1830 census. Could be another son or brother-inlaw. No record of Rachel's death or Will in Wayne Co. Where did they move to? What were children's names? William J. Meeks, first shows up in the 1820 census in Salt Creek Twp. Any information would be appreciated. Dan Meeks Fort Wayne, IN [email protected] ______________________________
