Julie L.39 My husband's ancestor, William Dick, millwright of Dundee, died in 1816 and the bulk of his property (apart from a flax spinning mill on the Haugh of Rattray) was a piece of land, or rather two pieces of land 'on the west side of the town of Dundee' and described thus: 'All and Whole that piece of ground with the Houses now built thereon Disponed to me by Hugh Lyon Esqr lying at the west end of the town of Dundee in the parish of ______ and Sheriffdom of Forfar which piece of ground is bounded: by a mutual dyke which separates the same from the subjects formerly belonging to the Heirs of John Rollo merchant in Dundee afterwards to Daniel Morgan of Westfield and now to Thomas Watt merchant in Dundee On the East; by March stones which separate the same from the ground disponed by the said Hugh Lyon Esqr to John Beattie Quarrier at Kingoodie and to which I have since acquired right from the said John Beattie On the South; by the road leading up from the well aftermentioned to the Perth road On the West; and by the said Perth road leading from the Nethergate Port of Dundee On the north parts; Together with ... the priviledge and use of the well on the Southern Boundary of the ground disponed to the said John Beattie and free ish and entry thereto Together with the priviledge of Ish and entry along the foresaid road which consists of Eight feet in breadth leading from the said well to the said Perth road and also with the priviledge and use of the vacant ground on the east side of the said Road betwixt it and the tenement now on the property purchased by me from the said John Beattie as far south as the door of the said tenement to be used as an Ish and Entry to the ground above disponed 'As also All and Whole That piece of ground with the Houses built thereon Disponed to me by the said John Beattie being the south part of the ground Disponed to the said Hugh Lyon by the said David [sic] Morgan and by him to the said John Beattie lying at the west end of the town of Dundee in the parish of _____ and Sheriffdom of Forfar which piece of ground and houses are bounded: by a mutual dyke which separates the same from the subjects formerly belonging to the Heirs of the said John Rollo afterwards to the said Daniel Morgan and now (or lately) to Thomas Watt mercht in Dundee on the East, by the Dyke built where march stones were formerly separating the said piece of ground & houses thereon from the subjects which belonged to Michael Luke now (or lately) to John Hallyburton on the South, By the road leading up from the well aftermentioned to the Perth road on the west and by march stones separating the same from the piece of ground herein before Bounded and Described Disponed by the said Hugh Lyon to me on the north parts Together with ... the priviledge and use of the well on the Southern Boundary thereof and free Ish and entry thereto As also The priviledge of Ish and Entry along the foresaid Road which consists of Eight feet in breadth leading from the said well to the said Perth road...'
