Donna, this is a very interesting story and there certainly were a lot of details for an 1884 newspaper article! I hope the parents did not hold it against BEATTY forever, and I wonder if they did prosecute the Squire! I see that you have already guessed that this is a family from L-142. The story caught my attention because a lot of the given names are the some of the same given names in my BEATTY/BEATY family, except for the name Glencora. The two witnesses, Peter P. HILIARD and W. J. ADAMS, are well known surnames of families that settled in Claybanks Twp., Oceana Co., MI in 1849. Also, there were people with the surname of HILLIARD and ADAMS who married into our Beatty family.
