Page 391 goes on, "Cadiz was laid out by Zaccheus A. Beatty and Zaccheus Biggs, Z. A. Beatty acknowledged the plat before Benjamin Hough, justice of the peace, October 29, 1804, and recorded the same day at Steubenville, Jefferson County." That's as detailed as I've found on the history of the naming of Cadiz. I looked through all the histories of Harrison County I have. The only one I don't have is Henry Howe's book. Does anyone have that? I don't believe he mentions how the name was chosen either as it's not in my notes, but maybe someone could check. There must have been some connection to Spain. Perhaps Messrs. Biggs or Beatty were originally from there? Curious to know myself!
