Civil War Pension of Noah Kauffman; Company B 133 Pennsylvania Infantry (Certificate #795,711); widow Nancy J. Kauffman (Certificate # 720,732); filed Pennsylvania; L75 On June 1, 1910 Noah Kauffman, aged 75 and a resident of Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania filed a Declaration For Pension under the Act of February 6, 1907. He enlisted May 23, 1863 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in Company B 133rd Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. He states that "his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 4 ¾ inches; complexion dark; color of eyes grey; color of hair brown; that his occupation was a rail Puncher. That he was born May 28th 1835 at Somerset Co. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows after discharge came to Blairsville, Indiana Co. was there about one year then went to Johnstown, was there about 10 to 12 years came to Uniontown there about 9 months then came to Connellsville, there ever since.. That he is a pensioner by certificate No. 795,711 at $15.00 per month." On June 23, 1898, form 3-402, Noah Kauffman states that his wife's maiden name is Nancy Jane Beatty and they were married June 1, 1865 at Blairsville, Pa. He lists the following children: Edgar F. born April 12, 1866; Oliver W. born June 18, 1868; John R. born October 17, 1871 and Wallace G. born October 21, 1885. Noah Kauffman was last paid at the rate of $20 to January 4, 1911. He was dropped from the pension rolls due to his death January 5, 1911. On January 16, 1911 Nancy Jane Kauffman, aged 63 and a resident of Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania filed a Declaration for Widow's Pension. She is the widow of Noah Kauffman who died January 5, 1911 at Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Her maiden name was Nancy Jane Beatty. On February 25, 1911 John R. Beatty, aged 67 and a resident of "124 West Apple Street, City of Connellsville, County of Fayette, State of Pennsylvania" states "he is the elder brother of the claimant, Nancy Jane Kauffman." Nancy J. Kauffman was last paid at the rate of $30 to July 4, 1920. She was dropped from the pension rolls due to her death July 26, 1920. Mrs. Nancy Jane Kaufman Mrs. Nancy Jane Kauffman, 73 years old, a resident of Connellsville for many years, died this morning at 9 o'clock at the home of her son, Wallace G. Kaufman in Will's road. She had been in poor health for about three years and for the past six months her condition had been of a more serious nature. Death was caused by complication of disease, incident to old age. Mrs. Kauffman was in Blairsville Indiana county, November 17, 1856 [I believe this birth year is a typo and should be 1846, based on census and marriage date of June 1865 given in Noah Kauffman's obituary-L. B.]. Her maiden name was Miss Nancy Jane Beatty. She married Noah Kauffman who died 11 years ago. Mrs. Kauffman resided in Cambria county for a number of years and 30 years ago the family moved to Connellsville. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Kauffman had made her home with her son, Wallace G. Kauffman. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the Ladies' Circle No. 100 to the William F. Kurtz Post No. 104 Grand Army of The Republic and was respected and esteemed by her wide circle of friends. Three sons, E. F. Kauffman of Geary, Indiana, O. W. and Wallace G. Kauffman, both of Connellsville survive. Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Mrs. Kauffman was a sister of the late John R. Beatty of Connellsville and is the last surviving member of her family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kauffman residence. Rev. G. L. C. Richardson will officiate. Interment in Hill Grove cemetery.
