    3. Alvin C. Beatty, Civil War Pension File, Certificate # 209,743; filed Pennsylvania, L75 [A copy of this pension file may be ordered through the National Archives, Washington D. C.--Laurel Baty, L252] On October 1, 1875 Alvin C. Beatty, a resident of Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, aged 34, filed a "Declaration for Original Invalid Pension." He states that "he is the identical Alvin C. Beatty who was a Private of Company F in the 135 Regiment of Penna Volunteers in the war of 1861, for the suppression of the Rebellion. That he volunteered at New Florence in the State of Penna on or about the 8th day of August 1862 for the term of ___ and was honorably discharged at Washington on the 24 day of November, 1862. This being the only service he ever rendered. That while in said service in the line of duty at Washington in the District of Columbia on or about the __ day of __ 186_ he contracted Chronic Rheumatism from exposure lying on the wet ground, for which he was treated at Hospital near the Capitol at Washington D. C." Alvin Beatty filed another application for pension July 9, 1877; his post office address at this time was Blairsville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. On August 11, 1882 Alvin C. Beatty filed a "Declaration for Restoration to the Rolls." His post office address is Derry's Station, Westmoreland Co., Pa. On August 10, 1912 Alvin C. Beatty, aged 71 and a resident of Derry, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, filed a Declaration For Pension under the Act of May 11, 1912. He states "that his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 2 ΒΌ inches; complexion light; color of eyes gray; color of hair light; that his occupation was Tradesman; that he was born 1841 at Indiana County, Pennsylvania. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: Blairsville, Indiana County Penna thence Millwood, Derry Township then Derry April 1882. That he is a pensioner under certificate No. 209743." The following letter from Alvin C. Beatty to the Commissioner of Pensions is in the file, dated April 1, 1913 (I have chosen to modernize the spelling in this letter): Dear Sir, I do wish to state to you on oath to the best of my knowledge that I am not able to give you the correct date of my birth. Nor can I give you any record of the family Bible. There was a man lived in Bolivar Pa by the name of Mr. Bennett told me that they had my Mother's Bible. He has moved away. My mother died when I was near 5 years of age. My father put six of us out to homes and I am at loss to tell you any other thing than I am telling you. My mind is so bad I can't remember but little. I have given you to the best of knowledge. It will be no credit to me to tell you nothing but the truth. My time is short here I feel that way I have indigestion very bad for the past 15 months. But rheumatism is my greatest trouble. I have not worked one hour for the past 5 years to earn one dollar. I am not hardly able to go to the office to make oath. My left hand is in very bad shape, ??? has become hard and swelled. A. C. Beatty The following note was attached to this letter: Dear Sir, I have two brothers that was soldiers. You may get some information of them if you wish to write them. Oliver Beatty of Uniontown, Pa John R. Beatty of Connellsville Pa. Don't remember of what Regiment they belonged to. Oliver Beatty is older than me. John R. Beatty is younger than me. A. C. Beatty Alvin C. Beatty was last paid at the rate of $18.00 to July 4, 1912. He was dropped from the pension rolls due to his death August 30, 1913.
