July 3, 1871 David Beattie, widower, married Ellen White in Paisley, Renfrewshire. David Beattie's father is shown as Samuel Beattie, shoemaker, (deceased) and his mother as Ann ___ (deceased). David Beattie resides in Ardrossan and is a steamboat engine driver. Ellen White is the daughter of Henry White and Margaret Rutherford. The marriage data appears to conflict with the information on David Beattie's death certificate. David Beattie's death certificate states he was a seaman, married to Helen Whyte. His father's name is given as David Beattie and his mother's name as Margaret Spencer. The informant was a son, Robert Beattie. Since David Beattie himself supplied the information on the marriage records it seems a more reliable source than the information supplied by his son Robert. There is a Samuel Beattie, shoemaker, who died at age 85 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, parents names not given. He was a widower at his death. 1851 Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, p. 20 Samuel Beathe, born Ireland, shoemaker, 67 Robert 22 visitor born Ireland William 17 son born Kilmarnock, Ayrshire David 6 months Great grandchild born Dalry, Ayrshire Mary McClean 21 visitor born Ireland There is also a David Beattie who married Margaret Spencer in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire Scotland March 7, 1818.
