Hi Thomas, Have you considered DNA testing? We have a DNA sample from Lineage 64B: William Ferrington Batey b: 1775 in Brunswick, Virginia d: December 1850 in Rutherford Co, Tennessee +Elizabeth Parham Sills b: in VA d: Abt. October 28, 1838 in Rutherford Co, Tennessee m: November 15, 1815 in Rutherford Co, Tennessee [probably connected to L64] We don't have a DNA sample from a descendant of Capt. William Batey. It would be interesting to compare your lineage with L64B. You can read about the Beatty DNA project at: http://www.beattydna.org/ One way of proving relationships between people involves studying their neighbors and associates. If you look at Capt. William Batey of Rutherford County, TN do you find similarities between his neighbors and those in Brunswick County, Virginia? Have you mapped any land owned in Brunswick County, VA and searched for neighboring land owners? You need to study all of the documents created by William Betty of Brunswick County, VA and all of the documents created by William Batey of Rutherford County and try to build a case for the relationship using indirect evidence. John Betty I am Thomas Elliott Batey of the Beatty Line 64. My great, great grandfather was Capt. William Batey(Betty). My inquiry relates to the possible relationship between my ancestor William Batey and the Rev. John Betty. The Rev. John was the first Episcopal priest appointed to Brunswick County Va.in 1733. He never married and thus has no descendents. However,he had brother named William who was in Brunswick County around 1740. William had three children,William, Thomas and Mary. The Rev. John died in 1740 and mentions William's children in his will. Records in Brunswick County indicate that William came there from Pennsylvania. My search of records thus far has not been able to determine whether the exists a relationship between the William Betty, brother of the Rev.John and my ancestor. Iwill greatly appreciate and information that will shed light on this matter. Thank you.
