Have received a letter from The Court of the Lord Lyon claiming authority on the subject and stating with regards to clans citing Frank Adam's Clans, Septs & Regiments of the Scottish Highlands, "I can find no reference therein to the surname Beatty, however spelt." He further notes that "Beattys" usually linked to the Borders would be unlikely to be considered a Sept of a Highland clan. Although he notes that some claim Beatty to be linked to the surname Bartholomew, a Sept of either MacFarlanes or Lelies----both Highland clans or Northeast Scotland surnames. He furthers states that he can find no reference to anyone who has been recognized as Chief of the surname Beatty, thus no crest, badge, nor coat of arms has descended to later generations. I will post the complete letter if any think it is worth the effort. Thomas M. Beatty, Line 199
