    3. Hi Kathy, Are you familiar with the South Carolina State Archives webpage? They have transcriptions of many early wills online. A Josiah Beatty appears in the 1824 Abbeville County Will of Joseph Kolb. He is a witness on a document and several Beattys are mentioned in the will. Kolb's wife was previously married to a Beatty and had a son Thomas who was mentioned in the will. A niece Elizabeth Clifford Batey is also mentioned in the will. William and Josiah Beatty witness the will. I am not sure if this link will work--if it doesn't you can just go to the online archives section of the South Carolina Archives webpage and search for Josiah Beatty: http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/Thumbnails.aspx?recordId=3004 42 I believe that early land records for Abbeville County were destroyed, however a number of wills survive. I am not familiar with lineage 283 and the documentation supporting it. My suggestion would be to track Josiah in every census year. Note who his neighbors were and who witnessed his deeds and other documents. You may find others in Lowndes County, Mississippi who also came from South Carolina. Study them. Many Brick walls are overcome by studying what Elizabeth Shown Mills calls our ancestor's "FAN" Club--friends, neighbors and associates. You might also convince a male Beatty relative to have a DNA test. We have several early Beatty families from South Carolina in our DNA project. At least two of those lineages also migrated to Mississippi. You may find a connection through DNA. My grandfather was William Gunter Beatty (1904-1977) so I am in lineage 283. I am blocked at the point where Josiah W. Beaty is born as I have found no additional information about any of his ancestors. Josiah was born in abt1802 in SC.I live in Lowndes County, MS where Josiah and many of his descendants still live. I have looked at the BP2000 project and appears there is no further info. Is this true? Kathy Beatty Goodwin
