    1. [BP2000] A New Beattie Family Line from Ballykeel , Edengonnell, Hillsborough, County Down, North Ireland
    2. Hello Group, Just in the last week or so, I have come in contact with Vivien Ann Beattie Parry that is the daughter of a Robert Beattie Family. My Wife, Donna, and I visited Robert and his wife in North Ireland at their home a number of years ago. At the time we only new that Robert Beattie had a daughter and that was it. Recently Vivien was given some of her deceased Father’s Genealogy Records that included my E-mail address and she very quickly contacted me. Vivien is a native of County Down, North Ireland and still lives there in Moneyreagh and would like to determined how her family relates to those in America. I have told her about our DNA program and she is anxious to locate a male family member that is willing to provide a test sample. I have added Vivien’s FamilyTree below. Barry Hubert Beattie, L – 98. 3. Dear Cousins, In the genealogy listed in the email A New Beattie Family Line from Ballykeel, Edengonnell Hillsborough, County Down, North Ireland I note that the birth and death dates for Thomas Beatty match very closely with those of my great, great, great grandfather Thomas Beaty who is listed in a book on the history of Washington County Pennsylvania as having been "born in Ireland". Thomas is the progenitor of BP lineage 044, and we know his yDNA. Also, several of the names of his siblings match names of his children (He had 12). Could we correspond and share more information? 3. The progenitor of line 69 William M Beatty was from Hillsborough County Down. I have also seen the names Ballykeel and I believe Edengonnell associated with him. If I am reading the DNA tables correctly, and I am not sure I am, there is only one variation of difference between line 44 shown in group 2 and line 69 shown in group Jock > Sandle. It would be interesting to look for other sons of James b abt 1670 that might have had a William b 1750. -----Original Message----- From: bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Marvin Beatty Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 9:26 PM To: bp2000@rootsweb.com; Julie Beatty Subject: Re: [BP2000] A New Beattie Family Line from Ballykeel , Edengonnell, Hillsborough, County Down, North Ireland Dear Cousins, In the genealogy listed in the email A New Beattie Family Line from Ballykeel, Edengonnell Hillsborough, County Down, North Ireland I note that the birth and death dates for Thomas Beatty match very closely with those of my great, great, great grandfather Thomas Beaty who is listed in a book on the history of Washington County Pennsylvania as having been "born in Ireland". 1. [BP2000] Reading Y-DNA results
    2. Nelda Percival
    3. Hi Alan, reading Y-DNA results is fairly easy. You compare each individual marker to the other person's marker. So if you were looking at marker DYS 393 and Man "A" was DYS393=12 and Man "B" was DYS393=14, these two men would be 2 TWO steps of difference from each other. Steps of difference are accumulative. Normally it is that simple you look and count the differences. But, there are times when it isn't that easy... and you would need to ask advise. It is believed that all men living today descend from one common ancestor. Haplogroup Adam.. from there all haplogroups developed... (remember haplogroups are SNP markers) this took hundreds of thousands of years... A match between two men must start with matching haplogroups; after that you look at your haplotype. (STR markers) That is where you get the steps of differences. Different admins may use a lower or higher number of differences...for a match; but it is about 3-5 depending on which markers are mutated. So if I am (a Man) and I'm say 3 steps of difference from you at 37 markers then we are related with in the time frame of the use of surnames. It could be close timewise or 20 - 30 generations away. Where the mutations happened, and how they changed can help the admin deterime these answers. Hope that helps Nelda ~o~o~o~o~o0o0o0o0o0o~o~o~o~o Nelda L. 3. Alan, You wrote: <<If I am reading the DNA tables correctly, and I am not sure I am, there is only one variation of difference between line 44 shown in group 2 and line 69 shown in group Jock > Sandle.>> You are not reading the tables correctly. In the lower table, the Jock/Sandie subgroup is part of Group 01 (our Adam group) which has one reference haplotype. Group 2 (which contains Lineage 44) has a different reference haplotype. The reason L-44 is in a separate group is because Group 2 is a genetic distance of 15 from Group 1. In other words, they are not genetically related. Regarding the term "genetically related," if one subscribes to the hypothesis that all humans are descended from a common ancestor, say 350,000 years ago, then sure, all humans are genetically related. But, that is a huge span of time to try to draw conclusions. I leave that to others. Ordinarily, we carry on these discussions on GenMatch, which was created for this purpose. But, since this thread was started here, I thought it appropriate to comment on BP-2000. Les Beaty, L-20

    2. Hello Alan Beattey & Marvin Beatty, To date Vivien Ann Beattie Parry has not joined this group mainly because she did not know that there were so many in America that were interested. I am forwarding your messages to her in hopes that she will soon join our group. She is very busy right now searching for a documented male in her family line that will participate with a DNA sample to determine how close our American family lineages are to hers. I have listed her E-mail address so that you may contact her directly for now. Vivien Parry <parryvivien@yahoo.co.uk>. May we find a Beaty, Beatty, Beattie Ireland connection soon.
