    3. Les, Ray and Mike and all others, I was wondering your opinions On: listing which BP2000 lineages had Y-DNA tested. On the BP2000 website at: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bp2000/lineages.htm primarily at each individual lineage. http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bp2000/summaries1.htm Say something like: LINEAGE 1. Y-DNA tested R1b1b2c Or just a list on a new page with a link to the DNA project: 1. Lineage 1 tested 2. Lineage 2 not tested 3. Lineage 2a tested Then the person enquiring could go to the Y-DNA webpage and enquire about the lineage... It would be some work, but it would be helpful for some of us. 3. Nelda, et. al. We already have some such information available at: http://www.beattydna.org/BP2000_Lineages_Tested__2010-09-04.htm And, the data tables are available at: http://www.beattydna.org/Table_I_10-07-10.htm and http://www.beattydna.org/Table_II_10-07-10.htm Now, these specific URLs change each time I update the tables. But, they are always accessible via our DNA Project Website: http://www.beattydna.org/ So, help me understand what more you'd like to see. Les

    3. Agreed Les,But, that is the DNA website. I think the BP2000 website should/could have a page that listed by lineage number whether or not a lineage had DNA tested. that page could then refer enquiring minds to your DNA website for the actual data. Just as some people use mailing lists and others use message boards I believe haveing the fact they were tested at the BP2000 website might help produce interest in testing. I'd even be willing to produce the list, then all that would be needed is to add it to the website. That way at a glance, your'd (not you... general person) know if a lineage had tested. nelda ~o~o~o~o~o0o0o0o0o0o~o~o~o~o Nelda L. 3. Nelda, I belong to another surname group that has done extensive Y-DNA testing on the various lines. That group lists a pedigree (as known) and the basic Y-DNA information under each lineage. It's been very useful in matching up lines. Mine blended into another not long after we started doing Y-DNA testing - which was quite marvelous because it hopscotched me past a long time brick wall. So despite the effort involved, I think having the Y-DNA at least linked in some manner to the pedigrees would be nifty. And I'd personally vote for option one -Lineage 1, tested xxxxxx. That's what the other site does and it works well. There are pages with the more compicated charts but the basic haplogroup and etc is quite enough for the main page and still allows people to look up the info easily. Just my two cents. Michal (and don't I wish we had a male relative in our Beatty lineage to test, sigh) -----Original Message----- From: bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nelda Percival Sent: Sunday, November 14, 2010 8:29 AM To: bp2000@rootsweb.com Subject: [BP2000] Genealogy website and Y-DNA Les, Ray and Mike and all others, I was wondering your opinions On: listing which BP2000 lineages had Y-DNA tested. 3. Hi Nelda, Although it would be some work to set up, the information would probably be most helpful if there is an "index page" listing the tested lineages and the actual DNA info is listed by each tested lineage. Thanks, Joe Campbell Thank You -----Original Message----- From: Nelda Percival <nelda_percival@hotmail.com> Sender: bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2010 10:28:47 To: <bp2000@rootsweb.com> Reply-To: bp2000@rootsweb.com Subject: [BP2000] Genealogy website and Y-DNA Les, Ray and Mike and all others, I was wondering your opinions On: listing which BP2000 lineages had Y-DNA tested. 3. Joe, In my opinion the actual Y-DNA data should stay at the DNA website under the control of Les. Those charts are quite intensive and need his expertise. My thoughts were just to list the lineages, so you could know at a glance if a line had tested. A quick reference. Nelda

    3. (For some reason, a few of my messages to BP2000 are bouncing back to me; not all, just a few. Don't know why. Am resending this one which did bounce. - Les) Joe, By "actual DNA info is listed by each tested lineage," I presume you mean the test results of each participant in each lineage. As you probably know, the set of test results for an individual, called a haplotype, is meaningless by itself. It's just a bunch of numbers, ie., 9,15,28,14,11,19,15, etc. It is only when that haplotype is compared with other haplotypes that meaningful information emerges (relationships, common ancestors, etc.). It is those comparisons which comprise Table II of our Test Results on www.BeattyDNA.org Of course, the raw test results ARE included in Table I. But again, by themselves, they are meaningless.
