    2. In early documents everything is made harder to read because nobody seemed to use punctuation.....leaving it up to the reader for interpretation. I have read and reread the original indenture "made the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and twenty Nine." Below is part of the original.................. "THIS INDENTURE made the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and twenty nine. BETWEEN ROBERT BEATTY and NANCY his wife, JAMES BEATTY and JANE his wife, MARGARET MADILL, WILLIAM JOHNSON & MARY his wife, THOMAS MEALY & NANCY his wife, WILLIAM DAN(RR)AGH & MARGARET his wife & DAVID MCDOWELL & JANE his wife of IRELAND by their Attorneys in fact ROBERT & JOHN BEATTY, and JOHN BEATTY of upper CANADA, and JENNY BROWN of CARLISLE PENNSYLVANIA by their Attorney in fact THOMAS G MCCULLOH ? of the first part, And JOHN WALLACE of LANCASTER COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA of the other parts. WITNESSETH that the said ROBERT BEATTY & NANCY his wife, JAMES BEATTY & JANE his wife, MARGARET MADILL, WILLIAM JOHNSON & MARY his wife, THOMAS MEALY & NANCY his wife, WILLIAM DANAGH & MARGARET his wife, DAVID MCDOWELL & JANE his wife, JOHN BEATTY & JENNY BROWN for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand two hundred & fifty Dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand will ? paid by the said JOHN WALLACE " I feel that it does not mean ROBERT AND JOHN, are attorneys in fact.........AS THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PERIOD AFTER FACT. It seems that they started a new sentence with ROBERT AND JOHN and the children from North America, ending by their Attorney in fact WHAT DO YOU THINK??????? I am in the process of typing the whole document for those that would like it or I can make copies and will send to anybody, interested, this way there will be NO mistakes or interpretation on my part. 3. Julie, <<I feel that it does not mean ROBERT AND JOHN, are attorneys in fact.........AS THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PERIOD AFTER FACT. It seems that they started a new sentence with ROBERT AND JOHN and the children from North America, ending by their Attorney in fact>> I'm afraid I don't agree with you. My reading is that Robert & John Beatty were attorneys acting on behalf of that first group of Beattys and that Thomas McCulloh? was the attorney action on behalf of John Beatty and Jenny Brown. It doesn't necessarily mean that the attorneys Robert & John Beatty are the same people named as selling the property (or whatever they are selling). In fact, I would guess they are not. BTW, I don't see the <<ROBERT AND JOHN and the children from North America>> Perhaps I am overlooking something, or did you leave it out? Les
