    3. Laurel, Do you believe this John Beaty Sr is the same that is found in several Overton Co TN documents as deceased in 1816? If so, how do you suppose he is related to the other earliest known L2 Beatys for whom we don't have known parents, i.e., 1752 James, 1752 Phoebe, 1780 John, 1783 David, 1785 George? And what about the 1775 James found in 1820 Overton Co Census? I highly value your thoughts! 3. Hi Willie, It has been awhile since I researched Lineage 2. As you know, lineage 2 is very complicated! Only one member of L2C has had a DNA test and he did not match the rest of the L2 subgroups. It would be very helpful to have another member of L2C tested. I believe that Ray Beatty prepared the Family Tree Maker file for lineage 2C--do you have a copy? Ray traced the Shell and Snow families to Missouri along with all of the male Beaty heirs. Here is a post I made several years ago after viewing the Fentress County deeds--it looks like John had sons Alexander, David, William and John and daughters Elizabeth (married Levi Snow) and Margaret (married Isaac Shell). Certainly this family could be related to the rest of lineage 2 but no records have been found to prove a linkage. submitted by Laurel Baty 9/16/2004) I thought I should clarify something--there are actually two early Fentress County deeds that deal with the sale of land "conveyed by Felps Reed to the heirs of John Beaty deceased." I will repost the abstracts from "Fentress County, Tennessee Deed Books A- B; 1824-1838" WPA records, 1938 reprint published by Mountain Press: Page 6 (Page 47, Instru #21) Isaac Shell and others to Charles Bates, all of Fentress County, State of Tennessee, 10 Oct. 1826. Cons. $300, 100 acres Beginning at a conditional line made between said Charles Bates and John & Flemming McClellan. Signed Isaac Shell (his mark), Margaret Shell (her mark) Levi Snow, Elizabeth Snow (her mark), Alexander Beaty. Witnesses McCleland, David Beaty, John L. McDonald Produced in open court and proved by John McClelland & David Beaty, 1st Monday of May, 1827, John H. Richardson, Clerk Registered 25, Sept. 1827 [Left out of this abstract: "being the one-third part of a 300 acre tract conveyed by Phelps Reed to the heirs of John Beaty, deceased."] Page 21 (Page 177, Instru # 79) Anne Beaty & others to John & Fleming McClellan all of Fentress County, State of Tennessee, 10 October, 1826. Cons. $340. 200 Acres beginning on John McClellan's line where George Highsows line intersects the same. Signed Anne Beaty (her mark), David Beaty, William Beaty, John Beaty, John H. Richardson, Clerk, by Wm. B. Richardson, his deputy Witnesses: John L. McDonald, Charles Bates, David Beaty Proven by Charles Bates & David Beaty Registered 20 February, 1830. [Left out of this abstract: "being the one-third part of a 300 acre tract conveyed by Phelps Reed to the heirs of John Beaty, deceased."] In summary: John Beaty died before August 17, 1816 leaving no will. He left a widow surviving him. He was probably residing in Overton County at his death. Henry Reagon was Administrator of his estate. Phelps Reed conveyed 300 acres of land to the heirs of John Beaty deceased. This land was subsequently sold: one third of the land was sold by Levi and Elizabeth Snow, Margaret and Isaac Shell and Alexander Beaty; 2/3 of the land was sold by Anne Beaty, David Beaty, William Beaty & John Beaty. Possible interpretation: Anne is the widow of John (1/3 share of estate) and she has 6 children: Margaret Beaty Shell, Elizabeth Beaty Snow, Alexander Beaty, David Beaty, William Beaty, and John Beaty. All of the males can sign their names. ************************************************************************** ************** from Laurel Baty July Session 1827 This day Margaret Shell personally appeared before me John McClelland, one of the acting justices of the Peace in and for said county of Fentress and being privately examined apart and separate from her husband, acknowledged upon oath that she has freely and of her own voluntary consent assigned her right of dower of the within mentioned tract of land without being coerced. Sworn to before me 10th of October, 1826. John McClelland There is no mention of Elizabeth Snow releasing dower. However, Fentress County deeds hardly ever have dower releases. The first thing Donna asked me when I started posting the deeds was "Where are the dower releases?"--They just are not in the deed and probably were not considered necessary in this region. So who knows? I can't think of any other reasonable explanation for these 2 deeds--I suppose there could be some strange partition based on a Court suit... ************************************************************************** ************ -----Original Message----- From: bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Willie R. 3. Is anyone researching this lineage? I ran into some info on brothers Horace W. and James Robert Beaty in WV and believe they are the sons of John Owen? Beaty who married Rebecca Pomeroy but he is not listed on BP2000 as a son of John and Rebecca Pomeroy. Has research been done on his children. If anyone is interested I will post it.
