Barry, About 10 years ago, I extracted all records mentioning Beaty (all forms) from various published references including: Brent Holcomb, Deed Abstracts of Tryon, Lincoln & Rutherford Counties, North Carolina, 1769-1786. Tryon County Wills & Estates, Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1977. I just finished going back over the information I have from that source and can find no references to Custer. I did find a few references, pasted below. These are some of the surnames mentioned in David Custer's message. Although I have photocopies of the pertinent pages from the above book containing references to Beaty as well as the index of the 'Bs', I don't have the 'Cs' copied. So, I do not know if the name Custer appears in that index. I would think that the deeds David mentions would be included. Don't know why they are not. Holcomb does include some deed abstracts which mention "Beaties corner" or "Beaties line;" just none that mention Custer. If someone has easy access to the book cited above, a quick look at the index might confirm the presence, or absence, of Custer in that volume. I don't have easy access or I would look. By the way, I have a record of over 350 records of deeds in North Carolina from 1754 to 1786 referencing the name Beaty (all forms), and that list is not complete. So, it isn't surprising that a Beaty would be mentioned in David's records. Anyway, sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
