    3. I did Cecil co., MD Index back in 2001 and posted it-note Chester co., PA southern part became part of Cecil co., MD- Donna L-3 >From "Pitfalls in Genealogical Research" Pg. 66 Prior to the Revolutionary War parts of Pennsylvania were claimed by three other colonies because of contradictory charters granted by our kings to the founders. Connecticut claimed the upper third of Pennsylvania and over into Ohio. In the middle of the eighteenth century, two companies threw Connecticut settlers into the northeastern area of Pennsylvania, comprising the present counties of Luzerne, Wyoming, Columbus, Bradford, Lycoming, Montour, Susquehanna, Lackawanna, Pike, and Monroe. If you have an ancestor in that area and don't know where to go next, try the Connecticut State Library at Hartford, for your ancestor may have been among those who, in the 1750's, made the trek westward from Connecticut to Pennsylvania. Also your ancestor may be mentioned in the eleven-volume work The Susquehanna Company Papers. (The papers of the other colonizing group, the Delaware Company seem to have been destroyed.) Maryland claimed the lower fringe of Pennsylvania counties from a point above Philadelphia. Families who lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1763 may have found themselves in Cecil County, Maryland, after Mason and Dixon had completed their great survey in 1767. Virginia claimed the southwestern counties of Fayette, Westmoreland, Washington, and parts of Allegheny and Beaver counties, and created them (with certain counties now in West Virginia) into the District of West Augusta and attached it to Augusta County. Your ancestors in that part of Pennsylvania may have come from Virginia, and are recorded in Boyd Crumrine's Virginia Court Records in Southwestern Pennsylvania.1775-1780. These claims were not settled until after the Revolutionary War. Microfilm # 0013819 Cecil Co., MD Index to Deeds 1674-1810 The numbering on the films is one apparently assigned for filming purposes and can be ignored. The general index is to Liber and these numbers are provided as far as they can be determined. The first fourteen volumes are the same. (This is confusing-I think it might mean Liber 16 is actually Liber BW 2-I hope I have that right-if you can figure it out appreciate knowing.see deed index at end) Beatty, George from Joseph McDougal B of S (16-120) 1785-1790?
