Darrell, We have a website dedicated to answering many questions about our Beatty DNA Project. You will find it at: www.BeattyDNA.org To answer your specific questions: <<Could anyone tell me what the process of DNA testing entails and what the results of such testing will give you?>> The process is relatively simple. A participant orders a test kit from the company we use for our purposes. The kit contains a device with which the participant swabs the inside of his cheek. The swab is then mailed back to the laboratory. After a few weeks wait, the participant's haplotype is reported. We then compare that haplotype with the 170 other haplotypes already reported for other participants to see if there are any relationships among those participants. We encourage each participant to submit their lineage to BP-2000 so that relationships among lineages can be determined. <<would it tell you specifically who you ancestors are? Grandfather, Great Grandfather etc.?>> No, naming one of your specific ancestor who has been dead for 50 years is WAY beyond the capability of DNA analysis. But, it would be really neat if it could. The best the project can do is to point to possible connections between or among Beatty lineages where such connections were not known or suspected. Such information can potentially be helpful in focusing one's research into areas which might produce favorable results. Sharing of information by researchers of potentially related lineages can prove very helpful. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me at lbeaty@q.com. Les Beaty, L-20
