Nelda, Oh my! I think I'm getting a headache! First, I don't know what my source meant by "during the Indian Wars." The French and Indian War was about 1754-1763. Don't know which war he is referring to. I will try to find out. You wrote <<Husband Alexander Beatty, Born About 1725, Ireland. Married 1759 Union Co., PA Died 1787 Northumberland County, PA, will probated 6/25/1787 Other Spouse(s) Susanna maiden name unk. Beatty Parents James Beatty and Agnes maiden name unk. Beatty ~~~~~ Wife Agnes (Susana) Brobst, Born unknown Died After 1787 ~~~~ Children 1 F Sarah Beatty, Born between 1760/1780 PA nothing else listed.>> Is this the Alexander Beaty that Pat Heinen believes might be a brother of her John Beaty (b. 1730)? I'm referring to her letter to you dated 27 June 2006. She believes that they may have immigrated to PA about the same time. She also indicated that Alexander had a son named John. Perhaps this John is the Capt. John Beatty I mentioned. Actually, that doesn't make sense. If Alexander married in 1759, a son would not be old enough command a latrine detail in 1775, much less a Ranger Company. So, I lean more toward his brother John, father of Robert. But, of course, Thomas Carter could have married Alexander's daughter Sarah. Here's another interesting tidbit. Thomas Carter's first wife was Sarah Calhoun whom he married in 1777. Robert Beaty married Nancy Calhoun in 1782. Interesting! Final question. Heinen said "Robert is neither the son of Robert (Thomas) Beatty Jr. nor of that line." Who is that Robert (Thomas) Beatty Jr. and what is 'that line'? Les Beaty

Of the 61 Army dead listed from Jackson County, 36 were killed in action, 6 were declared dead after being missing, 8 died of wounds, and 11 died while serving in the Army from causes other than battle. I am typing them as found and double checking my typing. Any errors or misspellings were probably in the newspaper. Lt. Maurice E. All, In December 1999, several us banded together and formed the Francis Beaty Research Project to consolidate existing information about L-20 Francis Beaty, compare and evaluate conflicting L-20 lineages, and develop a single L-20 lineage which other researchers of North Carolina Beatys can use in their research. After seven years of looking at the conflicting information, we can't say that we have determined the "correct" or "definitive" descendancy of L-20 Francis Beaty. However, we have developed what seems to us to be the most logical family groups of Francis, his children, and his grandchildren. Group sheets were not prepared for any children, or grandchildren, who did not have children. I have uploaded these group sheets in pdf format to: http://www.beattydna.org/L20.html You will notice that I have used part of our beattydna.org website to house these group sheets. However, there is no link on the beattydna.org home page to these group sheets. Hence, you need to use the entire URL cited above to reach them. Each group sheet is footnoted with sources and comments about specific facts or events. For some, we have tried to explain our conclusions regarding family composition. These statements of rationale are still debatable. Anyone having a differing opinion is encouraged to email me with his or her point of view. I will be happy to update these sheets as new information becomes available. Please don't hesitate to provide such additional information to me. Les Beaty, L-241/L-20

Powell Notes Book Title: History Of Hancock County Blanchard Township Author: Warner & Beers (1886) BEATMAN BEATTY POWELL, one of the leading farmers of Blanchard Township, P. O. Benton Ridge, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, May 14, 1833, son of Daniel and Eliza (Beatty) Powell, natives of Union and Lycoming Counties, Penn., respectively. The Powells come of a long and worthy line of Welsh pioneer ancestry in Pennsylvania. In 1803 Daniel Powell located in Fairfield County, Ohio. The subject of our sketch was reared there, and at the age of twenty-seven came to this county and took up land, clearing and improving a nice farm of eighty acres, to which he has since added nearly 300 acres, making a total of 370 acres of valuable land. He resides on Section 23, Blanchard Township. He married, in 1857, Elizabeth, daughter of John Whitehurst, of Fairfield County, Ohio, and they have a family of two sons and two daughters: Margaret Virginia, wife of Charles Heckerman, farmer, Blanchard Township, and America Belle, wife of John Kizbeth, also a farmer of Blanchard Township. His sons, Sherman Ellsworth and Henderson, are both of the same vocation as their father. Mr. Powell pays considerable attention to the rearing and breeding of fine bred cattle and hogs. He is a leading character in his locality, of a genial nature, open-hearted, frank and generous to a fault. He has oftentimes been selected by the people of his township and county to represent their interests in the councils of Blanchard Township and the county. He and his wife attend the services of the Methodist Episcopal Church, to which he is a liberal contributor. Mr. Powell has always done a leading share in the support of all measures tending to the welfare of his^ locality. In politics he is a Democrat. 17. Mary A. I have discounted it due to conviencing evidence that it was incorrectly incorporated into the L-05/ had a book written about them alll by Helen M. Snyder. The Genealogy of Robert Beatty 1760-1823. First Settler of Jackson Township, Venango, Pa. by Helen M. Snyder 1982. Pat who declares that this is not the Robert Beatty that should be L-05 but an un numbered new lineage. She stated she proved to Helen that Robert who married Nancy Agnes Calhoun was her ancestior and proved all she said bu Helen wanted to join the DAR so ignored her proof... I can send the info on this if anyone wants to corespond with her (she will not do email, it must be via snail mail..) I discovered yesterday that one couple, Thomas & Sarah BEATTY Carter (Thomas- b. 1752, d. 1851), is part of my wife's ancestry. My mother-in-law got a big laugh when I told her I'd married my cousin. I don't know how Sarah is related to the other Beattys. When I searched our present geographical index for Venango County, PA, the only hit I got was L-5. But, the L-5 lineage in the archives is not helpful. So, does anyone recognize these Beattys as being part of L-5, or any other lineage? Thanks. I believe that Robert is a subset of L5 (5C?)--I think there is some confusion over where he belongs. Annie Harris is a descendant of this Robert Beaty--many things have been posted about the family and a family History was written (Annie has a copy). Annie descends through Robert's son, John Beatty, and his son Parker. We almost had a DNA sample from the lineage but the donor backed out. There are many Civil War pensions etc. for this family. John's son, Robert, was a well known Methodist Minister. >From "History of Venango County Pennsylvania Its Past and Present" Brown, Runk & Co., Publishers, 1890 page 689-690 Jackson Township Pioneers It is a matter of definite tradition that ROBERT BEATTY was the first settler within the limits of this township and in the valley of Sugar creek from its mouth to Townville, Crawford County. Very little is known concerning his personal history. He came to this locality from one of the eastern counties of the state, probably as early as 1796, as his name occurs on the ledgers of both George Power and Edward Hale prior to 1800. At that point in the course of Sugar Creek where it is crossed by the southern line of Jackson township the valley of the stream is fully half a mile wide. The channel of the creek is near the bluffs on the east, leaving a level expanse of meadows with a gradual slope from the west. At an early date this was called the "the prairie." It was not covered with a dense forest like the surrounding country but merely with a thick growth of underbrush, and was readily reduced to cultivation. Here Robert Beatty made his settlement and lived to the end of his life. He reared four sons: John, Francis, Samuel, and Robert; and seven daughters: Mary, Nancy, Sarah, Elizabeth, Isabel, Ann, and Lila. John was the father of the Reverend Robert Beatty, a well-known minister. In politics Mr. Beatty, Sr., was Democratic. Of Scotch extraction, he was Presbyterian in his church connection and gave the ground upon which Sugar Creek Church was built. He died May 16, 1823, in the sixty-third year of his age, and is buried under a clump of trees on the Shaw farm. On the previous day he had attended the funeral of Mrs. John Wilson and is said to have remarked that his own death was likely to occur soon. Its suddenness created a profound sensation.
