However, Robert died in St. Quivoix, Ayr, Scotland, on the 8th of May, 1855. His parents were Alexander Beattie and Hannah Johnson. Since you're wondering around Ireland, would you look around for Alexander Beattie and his wife Hannah Johnson? You might know that my cousin, Russ Brown, has matched 4 Beattys on this list and I have searched for a connection between the two families and wonder if this might be the connection I'm looking for. How can I find out more about this #2 item? Also, #7 might be interesting since our immigrant ancestor from Ireland, William Brown, worked on a Cunningham estate while in Ireland before his immigration in 1840. 1. [BP2000] Irish Beatty Wills
    2. Laurel Baty
    3. These Irish Will abstracts are from "Abstracts of Irish Wills" by Lorna Rosbottom, available at the Family History Library. These volumes are typescript and can be difficult to read. As many of you know, most wills in Ireland were destroyed in 1922 and survive only in index and transcript form. The transcripts appear in many genealogical collections (such as the Swanzy collection referenced below, available on microfilm at the FHL) and it can be very tedious to track down an individual transcript, if indeed it exists. I did find one great will which I will transcribe and post shortly. The following list is certainly not a complete list of the Beatty will transcripts-but it is a nice collection. 3. Nagle Irish Research, BP2000 Lineage 6 The Civil War pension of James F. Beaty [James F. Beaty, Company "D" 6 West Virginia Infantry, Certificate # 993,239; widow Mary A. Beaty, Certificate # 829,778, L6] provided a clue to the birth place of his wife, Mary Nagle. In deposition taken September 14, 1916 Mary Ann Beaty, aged "70, April next" and a resident of Granite City, Madison County, Illinois states "My full name is Mary Ann Beaty born Nagle. I was born in Ireland, but do not know county or the year in which I was born. Thomas Nagle and Julia Ann Handlan were my parents. There were eight of the children but only two born in Ireland, that is that lived. Gort was the nearest town to us in Ireland and I think it was county Galway. I was christened there, but name of the church I do not know. Margaret was the name of the other child born in Ireland. I was near seven years of age when we came to this country. Margaret died in Ireland before I was born and Michael was the other one born there. We first stopped in the Allegheny mountains then went to Center Station, West Va. Stayed there till I was near grown then to the country to Abraham Cottons near Middleburn, West Va., where I married James Farrel Beaty, when I was past sixteen, but I do not remember the year." I examined the Parish Records of Gort, Galway Ireland for evidence of Mary Ann Nagle's birth but unfortunately baptisms in the Parish register did not begin until 1848. [Title: Parochial registers of Gort (Galway), 1848-1884; Authors: Catholic Church. Parish of Gort (Galway) (Main Author) Catholic Church. Parish of Kilmacduagh and Kiltartan (Galway) (Added Author). Notes: Microfilm of original manuscripts at the National Library of Ireland. Poor filming quality; some text may be illegible. The Catholic parish of Gort includes the civil parishes of Kiltartan, Kilmacduagh and Killinny. The parish is also called Kilmacduagh and Kiltartan. There were chapels in Kilmacduagh, Kiltartan and in the market town of Gort. Film Notes: Baptisms, 1848-1862; marriages, 1853-1861; baptisms, 1854-1884; baptisms and marriages, 1862-1863. - FHL BRITISH Film [ 979691 Item 3 ] I decided to look through the baptisms in the Parish of Gort to see if I saw any evidence of the Nagle name. I found no Nagles baptized or married in the parish but I did see one very interesting Nagle in a baptismal record: February 2, 1849, entry #2 "James Luckey a private solger [soldier] by the Revd MICH'L NAGLE parish priest & V. G. of Kilmacdough, Gort." I looked up Michael Nagle in The Irish Catholic Directory and found him shown as parish priest of Kilmacduagh, Gort in every year after 1846 available at the Family History Library up until 1882. His obituary is listed in the 1884 Catholic Directory, page 385: [Died] Jan. 5, 1883 Rev. M. Nagle, P. P., Kilbecanty, Kilmacduagh. In the book The History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Kilmacduagh by J. Fahey, D. D., VG, Dublin, 1893, p. 394, "Gort Town" there is a short biography of The Very Rev. Michael Nagle, P. P., V. G. It states "He was a native of the diocese, a nephew of the Rev. John Nagle, who was parish priest of Ardrahan when the "Ardrahan Declaration" was formulated and signed; he was also uncle of the Rev. Michael Nagle, who was for many years parish priest of Kilbecanty. He made his studies in Maynooth [A Catholic Seminary]. Father Nagle died "on the 26th of July 1854, and is buried on the south side of the cathedral in the Kilmacduagh cemetery." Another section of the book (page 428) states "we think that Father John Nagle was the founder [of Ardrohan Parish and Church]. He died in the beginning of the century, and is interred in the O'Shaughnessy chapel of the Kilmacduagh cathedral." And on page 432 "The Rev. M. Nagle succeeded Father O'Shaughnessy. He was nephew of the Very Rev. M. Nagle, Vicar-General of Gort, and grand-nephew of the Rev. J. Nagle of Ardrahan. He provided the church [Kilbecanty] with the existing belfry and bell. He died parish priest of Kilbecanty in 1883." Thus there is a record of 3 generations of Nagle priests in the Kilmacduagh Diocese-could these be relatives of Mary Ann Nagle? Mary Ann Nagle's father was Thomas Nagle and her mother Julia Handlan. Mary Ann's oldest brother was named Michael and she had another brother named Martin. Looking at Griffith's Valuation of Ireland I found the following Nagles in County Galway (c1855, after Thomas Nagle moved to America): Surname First Name Townland Parish County Nagle Anne Gardenblake Kilthomas Galway [Lessor James Galbraith] Nagle Martin Gardenblake Kilthomas Galway [Lessor James Galbraith] Nagle Maryanne Gardenblake Kilthomas Galway [Lessor Martin Nagle] Nagle John Abbey Lane Loughrea Galway [Lessor Reps. Havaland Burke] Nagle Rev. Michael Church St. Kilmacduagh Galway Nagle Rev. Michael Drumminacloghaun Kilmacduagh Galway [Lessor James Lahiff] Nagle Martin Ardamullivan Beagh Galway [lessor Viscount Gough] Nagle Martin Cregmahon Beagh Galway [lessor Robert J. Lattey, Martin Nagle also sublets some land] Nagle Martin Tiraloughan Beagh Galway [lessor Viscount Gouth] Nagle Rev. Michael Ballyhugh Kilmacduagh Galway [Lessor James Lahiff] Nagle John Gort George's Street (North We Beagh Galway [Lessor Denis Keane] I copied each individual entry and have noted above the lessor of the land the Nagles lived on-this is important because it provides a way to locate estate records that may detail the Nagles emigration to America. Another census substitute for Ireland is the Title Applotments taken c1820. A cross index to Griffith's Valuation and Title Applotments is available at the Family History Library and showed that there were Nagles in the following parishes: Beagh (FHL 256,574), Kiltartan (FHL 256,653), Ardrahan (FHL 256,566) and Kilthomas (256,563). Beagh: James Nagle (#16, land near that of Lord Gort); Wid Nagle (#91, Gortimgagh) Kiltartan: Rev. Mr. Nagle, P. P. (#13) Ardrahan: Rev. Jn. Nagle Kilthomas (taken Dec. 23, 1826): Richard Beaty (# 7, 8, 28, 29, 35); James Nagle (#63, landlord Francis Foster); Richard Hanlan (#75, landlord Richard Galbraith); Lurley Hanlan (#81, landlord Richard Galbraith) So in 1826 we have 2 Nagle priests (John (generation 1) and Michael (generation 2) And then we have a widow Nagle and 2 James Nagles (which could be 1 person renting land twice or 2 different people). Kilthomas has 2 Hanlon families, a Beaty family and a Nagle family; this seems like a good possibility for the parish of origin of the Thomas Nagle family. Thomas Nagle and Julia Handlan were married in Ireland c1841; unfortunately parish records for Kilthomas do not begin recording marriages until 1848. Research options: 1. Obituary for Thomas and Julia Nagle in the United States. 2. Estate records for Kilthomas [only available in Ireland, not microfilmed. During the Famine of the 1840s and 50s many estates purchased passage to America and other locations for their tenants. Estate records can have a great deal of genealogical material.]. 3. Memorial Inscriptions at graveyard in Kilthomas, Kilbecanty, and Kilmacduagh. 4. Records from Maynooth College or local church where one of the Nagle men were priests. 5. Local obituary for one or all Nagle priests. 6. Trace one of the other Nagle men in 1855 (Martin or John, possible brothers of Thomas) forward and try to find living relatives in Ireland. http://www.celticcousins.net/ireland/beaghbaptisms.htm Beagh Parish Baptism: Child: Nagle, ? 3. >From deeds Janet has been able to prove Rachel Beatty Aber was the dau of Jas & Katherine Beatty of L-468. Does anyone have any info on a Samuel Glass marrying an Elizabeth Beatty, possibly mid 1700, possibly a sister to Jas Beatty? Donna L-3 History of Allegheny co., PA pg. 665-666 JOHN FISHER, farmer, Postoffice White Ash, a son of Ohristian and Catharine (Nenstiel) Fisher, was born at Heimbolds-Hausen, Hessen-Cassel, Germany, Aug. 20, 1837. He attended school until fourteen years old, and then served six years at the weaver's trade. In 1859 he left his native land, and came to Pittsburgh, where, finding work scarce, he apprenticed himself to a shoemaker rather than be idle. In 1861 he enlisted in C0. B, 9th P. R, and joined the Army of the Potomac. At the battle of Gaines Mills he was shot through the right arm and taken prisoner, After four weeks confinement in Richmond, he was paroled, went to Chester hospital for treatment, and was discharged for disability Oct. 25. 1862. Two years later he took up his residence in Penn township, and March 3, 1870. married Catherine Aber, and settled on the farm where he now resides. He is a republican, and with his wife is a member of the Presbyterian Church at East Liberty. Mrs. Fisher was born on the farm where she now lives, daughter of John and Rachel Aber, early residents. Her grandfather, James Beatty, was kept a prisoner for three years by Indians, who had murdered his father and for two years was interpreter for the traders. ----------- Glass/Beatty (may be connected to L-468) Mrs. Nancy Glass McKee Age-92 Years (Pittsburg Leader, Sept. 27, 1908) Mrs. Nancy Glass McKee was born July 26, 1817, at her father's home, Glass' farm, on the Monongahela river, Baldwin Township, Allegheny county, between the "town" of Pittsburg and the Six-mile Ferry. This was one year after the name Fort Pitt was changed to Pittsburg. In her own words Mrs. McKee tells the story of her life as follows: "My grandfather, Samuel Glass, was born and reared near Carlisle, Pa. My grandmother, Elizabeth Beatty Glass, was born in England, coming to this country with her parents and two brothers, William and James Beatty, and settling at Sandy Creek, a short distance up the Allegheny river from Fort Duquesne. My father, Johnston Glass, was the youngest of five children. He was born in 1777. In 1791 his parents settled near Fort Pitt. Among my earliest recollections is hearing my father tell of the Indian raids upon the Sandy Creek farms, when his uncles, William and James Beatty, were taken prisoners and their homes and property burned. At this time valuable papers pertaining to an inheritance, left in trust in the Bank of England for the Beatty children, were destroyed. My mother, Agnes Thornbury, came from County Tyrone, near Dungannon, at 10 years of age in company with her two sisters and their intended husbands, one John Mortimer, for 40 years collector of customs at Baltimore, and the other James Irwin, who owned a farm not far distant from my father's. My father always spoke of Uncle and Aunt Irwin as 'our first friends and kinsfolk.'....... (the memoir continues for 9 more pages)

This one below is for my Beaty family line (L 124). It is still work in progress but it does have quite a few Beaty family members and descendants of the Beaty family: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kirkbeaty/sets/72157601472801827/ I had placed some photos here on this group (under files), but the FLICKR site above has considerably more photos, including Rev. Robert Burns Beaty and several other descendants.
