Stephen, please forgive me, my since of humor stems from too many years teaching Sunday School to 9 and 10 year old children. My wife got it right away and really laughed, but she too was teaching in the same class, so I guess you could say we share a brain.I will explain, it sounds like a lot of trees were planted on the banks of a river and a small child may say that it was TWEED rather than TREED. In this particular picture there was trees on one side, but not the other and---oh well. Below are the URL's for two nice sites with great pictures of the RIVER TWEED. There are some nice ones here, you may have to copy and paste into your browser. http://www.doughoughton.com/webpage/page/page023.html There is 27,400 pictures of the river on this site http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&rls=TSHA,TSHA:2005-19,TSHA:en&q=River+Tweed+Scotland+Pictures&um=1&ie=UTF-8 Armond L-32 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Armond Beaty" <acbeaty@1starnet.com> To: <bp2000@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 06, 2008 10:07 PM Subject: [BP2000] River Tweed > I was amused while looking at some pictures on the Internet of the River > Tweed, maybe it does not take much to amuse me. May I suggest that the port of entry may have been New Orleans but, the family could have taken a boat upstream to St louis and thus to Iowa. The infant could also have been christened in St louis.
I was amused while looking at some pictures on the Internet of the River Tweed, maybe it does not take much to amuse me. Any way looking at the River tweed, I noticed it was on one side, but there was no twees on the other side<G> Armond
Hi Craig, You might want to try searching Louisiana Catholic records first. Many Catholic marriage records list the parents of the bride and groom and also place of birth. Here is a link to the New Orleans Diocese (it looks like they do genealogy for a fee--often these records are in Latin and the Catholic Archives will translate the records)--you could also try the diocese where Richard Beatty's children were born--again his parents names may be listed in baptismal records of his children. http://www.archdiocese-no.org/archives/page4.htm I am always amazed at how detailed Catholic sacramental records are. Hi Les, Yes, this is the same Beatty family. Richard Edward Beatty, according to his obituary, was born on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico in 1842, while his family was immigrating to the USA. He was reared in Clinton County, Iowa, which may mean that the family immigrated through New Orleans, Galvaston, or somewhere else on the Gulf Coast. He did grow up in Iowa, though I don't believe that Clinton County, Iowa was a huge port of entry. Thus, the Chicago, Illinois theory. I believe that This area of Illinois is right over the river from Clinton County, Iowa. Richard Edward Beatty enlisted in the Union Navy, probably from Chicago. The 1st Regiment of NY Marine Artillery recruited from different parts of the country, one of which was Chicago. In 1860, there is a Richard Beatty in Elk River Township, Iowa, living with a family that were not Beattys. The thought is that the Beattys moved to New York, leaving the 18 year old Richard in Iowa for whatever reason. Sometime during the Civil War, or directly after, Richard Beatty found himself in New Orleans, where he married Johanna Ward Gray, widow of C. A. Gray. I hope this helps to clarify a very puzzling family. Earlier you posted a multi-generational lineage of Richard Edward Beatty with birth and death information of the family in Louisiana. You indicate that this Richard Edward Beatty was born on board ship in the Gulf of Mexico on the trip from Ireland. Presumbably, they landed at New Orleans. Elsewhere you have them moving to Iowa and to New York City. Then, you have them entering the country at Chicago. This appears to be a very mobile family for the early 1800s. Are you sure you are talking about the same family? Hi Craig, Very interesting! The easiest way to find a lineage on BP2000 is to use the geographical Index: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bp2000/Geography02.htm I don't see a family listed for Clinton Co. Iowa--but you have the other brothers to trace as well. Have you tried finding pensions for Thomas and Hugh? On the USGENweb page for Clinton Co. Sylvester is listed in a Cemetery there--I believe he died in the 1960s--perhaps you could get an obituary and see if he had any sons. So it sounds like Patrick Beatty died and Bridget was living in Iowa and possibly remarried. I noticed several Lynch families in Clinton County. Did you copy Charles Beatty's pension yourself or order it from the Archives? The Archives are rather notorious for sending incomplete files (I found one file that was over 600 pages and someone from BP2000 had ordered it--the Archives sent about them about 50 or so pages. Since Charles lived into the 1920s he should have had to prove his age--which sounds like where the information that you give comes from. I will check my files when I get home. Have you tried to get an obituary for Charles Beatty--perhaps he mentions siblings in his obituary. We have a large Beatty DNA project--if you knew of a living male descendant of Richard Beatty and could find a Beatty male desecndant of Charles Beatty you could determine if the 2 were related. There was a Charles Beaty of Clinton Co. Iowa was in the Civil War and he appears to have a Civil War pension: TWENTY-SIXTH REGIMENT IOWA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY Beaty, Charles. Age 18. Hello list, My Beatty relatives arrived in the USA and settled in Clinton County, Iowa. The actual port of entry might have been in Chicago, Illinois, or somewhere very close. My Richard Edward Beatty was said to have been born on the ship in the Gulf of Mexico on the voyage from Ireland. Since he was a life long Roman Catholic, would it make sense that the family would have had the new baby baptized upon arriving at the ship's final destination? If this was Chicago, there might be some Archdiocesan records available. Which leads me to my question: does anyone have access to an index of Catholic records in the Chicago area for 1842? Thank you, Craig

In the 1925 state census of Iowa, you list: David J Beatty 7 In the household of Sylvester Beatty. In the 1930 census, he would be 12. Is there a later state census that may give us a hint as to who David J. Beatty might have married and might have lived? This appears to be our only hope for a male Beatty connected to the Iowa Beatty line. This David appears to have been born around 1918, so he may not have survived to today (he would be approximately 90 years old); however, if we can determine any male children on his part, we may be in business. Hi Laurel, Thank you very much for your insight. I do have Charles Beatty's full pension. It gives very good information on Charles, but not so much on his family. His parents were indeed Patrick Beatty and Bridget Lynch, and he lists his siblings as Thomas, Hugh, Richard, and I think Mary. I still hang on to the notion that Charles is related to my Richard due to the similarity of family names. Looking at Charles' brother's names, my Richard had a son named "Richard Thomas Beatty," and R.T. Beatty had children named "Charles Hugh" and "Richard Edward." I realize that this might be really common Irish names in the mid 19th Century, but from Richard's children to grandchildren, he had incorporated all of these names. On March 14, 1925, Charles claimed to be the last of 4 brothers to join the Army. He also claimed to arrive in New York from Ireland about October 1, 1858 and came to Lyons, Iowa, where "my mother and brothers preceeded me." "they were my mother's brothers here, - mine were scattered." The only surviving male child of Charles Beatty was Sylvester Charles Beatty. Is he listed in any of the lineages on BP2000? Finally, the only place I can find a Richard Beatty in a naval capacity in the Civil War was a Richard Beatty who joined the 1st Regiment NY Marine Artillery, which recruited in Chicago, Illinois. This Richard Beatty deserted in 1862 or 1863. Many in this unit left, and the unit was disbanded in 1863. Many of the marines joined revenue cutter units because the profitability was better. If Richard joined a naval outfit and ended up in New Orleans, the probability was that he would not have used his real name due to the prior desertion. The fact is that he claimed in his obit to be part of the navy in New Orleans, and he did indeed end up in New Orleans by around 1868 but possibly sooner. Any thoughts would be very helpful. I can find Beattys on my end for the DNA, but I am not sure where to start with respect to the Iowa Sylvester Beatty family. Craig, I am thoroughly confused. Les Beaty, L-20

Hello list, This is the third time I am trying to send this to the list. My subsequent message giving additional information appeared on the list, but I still haven't seen this one. Craig Hello list, Below, I have pasted a copy of the genealogy report for my Beatty line. This report begins with Richard Edward Beatty, but I believe that his parents might have been Patrick Beatty and Bridget Lynch, who may have moved from Ireland to Iowa to New York City, though I have no conclusive evidence of this connection. I have been corresponding with an individual about another family and I mentioned Beattie. They are connected with the Gawin-Irwin Beatty that is listed in the Egle manuscript on the BP2000 website. Gavin-Irwin Beatty, b. 13 Sep 1773 in Ireland; d. 14 Dec 1843 in PA What BP2000 lineage is this? Could not figure out how to find out without opening every lineage listed.
