    1. [BP2000] Digitization of Irish Records
    2. Laurel Baty
    3. I received my copy of "The Septs" a few days ago - this is the quarterly publication of the Irish Genealogical Society International and is a wonderful resource. In the April 2008 issue (all past issues are available on-line to members) there is an interesting article on the state of digitization of Irish records written by Brian Donavan, Fiona Fitzsimons and Cathy McCartney, Enneclann Ltd. The article states that the GRO [General Registry Office] has indexed and digitized all births and marriages to 1920-it is anticipated that the records will one day be available on-line for a fee. Another digitization project involves PRONI [Public Record Office of Northern Ireland] who has digitized among other things the Freeholders list (a list of voters in Ireland from 1727 -1840)-this project is complete and available on-line at: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index.htm http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/freeholders_records.htm A search for the name "Beatty" turns up 297 results; the spelling Betty returns 144 results. PRONI also has an on-line index to the early wills that were proved in the District Probate Registries of Armagh, Belfast and Londonderry from 1858 to c.1900. A search for the surname Beatty finds 156 matches. The next stage of the project is to digitize the actual wills and make them available online (I have copied all of the Armagh wills and some of the Londonderry wills and would be happy to share them with anyone who would be willing to transcribe the will of interest and post to BP2000.) Another interesting digitization project covered in the article is the Irish Genealogical Project: http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/frame_1024.cfm This project is the work of the Irish Heritage centers. There is a free index for births and marriages for 11 Counties (Armagh, Cavan, Derry, Donegal, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo, Sligo, Tyrone & Wexford). A search for Beatty in County Sligo yields 50 results: Surname used in Search: BEATTY Range of Years used in Search : All Surname First name Source Year Source* Centre BEATY MARY 1781 B Co. 3. Paul, Your order has not showed up in the Beatty Project. They are working on their website, but I think it likely that you really aren't in the project. Joining is easy if you want to, after the test is done. The main issue is that they offer a discount for Project members. If you want the discount call or e-mail FTDNA. 2. Laurel's post containing <<Page 21 (Deed Book 25) 346. p. 459. 21 Sep 1808. John Braly of Rowan>> jogged my memory. I have in an L-53 family group a daughter Mary Beaty b. 1765, Rowan Co., NC m. John Braly, Jr., b. 25 May 1765, Rowan Co., NC, m. 5 May 1783, Rowan Co., NC I have no idea if L-53 William Beaty is connected to the George Baity family. I just thought I would toss in this little tidbit. Wouldn't it be interesting if L-53 Mary Beaty and L-194 George Baity were siblings, or cousins? Geoge born in 1755 (or before) and Mary born 10 years later. My chart for L-53 doesn't show a son named George, but it does show a son names Ephraim. The deed cited above does mentioned EPHRAIM BEATEY. Hummmm. Hope this doesn't muddy the water too much. Les Beaty L-20

    3. Hi Pat, Have you tried searching the BP2000 mailing list Archives? I did so using the word "Rowan" and came up with 5 entries, including several posts I did from the series of published Rowan Co. Deed Abstracts (several mentioning George). I believe I abstracted all of the Beatys in the volumes available to me at the DAR library but the library was missing several volumes. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search Type BP2000 in the List field and Rowan in the subject field. If you type Rowan in the body field you will find 74 matches. Laurel Baty, L252 -----Original Message----- From: bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bp2000-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Pat Webster Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2008 6:33 PM To: bp2000@rootsweb.com Subject: [BP2000] Looking for NC Baity Family Researchers L-194 I'm curious if, other than me, any of the L-194 Baity researchers listed on BP2000, Donna VanZandt, Nancy Hashimoto, and Ivan W. Miller are still participating in the BP2000 project because I have several questions. This all came about when I started wondering how we know for certain that George Baity and Rachel Unknown were our earliest known ancestors and it would be nice to be able to compare notes with these researchers. I've spent countless hours searching online for documentation on his birth, marriage and death and have yet to find anything, other than the 1810 census record, and I'm totally frustrated. (picture me banging my head against the wall) If I could travel to North Carolina to look at records I'd love it, but I can't. When I first posted my lineage, L-448, to BP2000 in 2003, which only had my GG-Grandfather Monroe Baity as my earliest known ancestor, someone on the list helped merge my lineage with L-194, and that was the end of learning any more. I'm sure my reliance on the list stopped then because I was so excited to find my Baity's. I jumped on it and started researching everything I could find. I have filled in a lot of blanks (with documentation) on this lineage and have four new-found cousins working with me on the project. I actually started documenting from the present day backwards and now I'm at George and Rachel. The BP2000 lineage for L-194 has a birth date for George Baity as before 1755, birth place unknown, death date 3/11/1828 Rowan County, NC (which I can find no record of or place of burial). I've seen a marriage date of 1790 for George and Rachel on an online user submitted tree (of whom the poster of is unreachable via their email), if that is true that would mean there was another wife prior to Rachel, since the first three children that I know of were born in the 1780's. Another thing that I wonder about is the number of children for this union. The L-194 linage has only four listed, Rev. William Henry Baity, Mary Baity, David W. Baity, and George Baity. That's a mighty small family for that time period and his sons and grandsons were certainly not shy about having children. >From the census and other records I'm confident the David W. Baity listed above is my 4th great grandfather. I just wish I could feel that way about George being my 5th great grandfather. I guess what I'm actually asking is how do we/or how did they prove that George is L-194's earliest known ancestor? 1. [BP2000] Looking for NC Baity Family Researchers L-194
    2. Pat Webster
    3. I'm curious if, other than me, any of the L-194 Baity researchers listed on BP2000, Donna VanZandt, Nancy Hashimoto, and Ivan W. Pat Beaty Webster L-194 Family Genealogy Site http://beaty-cox.org

    3. Hi Paul, I have never had trouble paying with a credit card but I do not use a Mac computer. You might want to call the company and make sure that you did not get double billed. Usually they will send a confirmation email stating that your kit has been ordered--so if you have not gotten an email from the company your order may not have gone through. There may be some temporary problem with the webpage. Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd. World Headquarters 1445 North Loop West, Suite 820 Houston, Texas 77008, USA Phone: (713) 868-1438 You can also email Julie who is in charge of billing and tell her that you are having trouble using a credit card on the order page. juliew@familytreedna.com You can give your order over the phone and use a credit card. Make sure that you state you want to join the Beatty surname project--there is a significant discount for people belonging to a surname group.
