    3. Actually, my g.grandmother Lizzie's name on her birth certificate was Lizzie Jemima Beattie. I thought her name was Elizabeth too, too until someone looked up her birth certificate for me. I'm not sure about Emma's sister Lizzie in that other Beatty family, though. Could be a nickname in her case. 3. The "Emma Beatty" I came across buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Bradford Massachusetts is the same "Emma Bety" (parents Samuel and Esther) shown in the LDS database born 8/31/1860. I did see the name "Esther" on the headstone in that plot, too. I did a birth date calculation on Emma's cemetery records and came up with the exact birth date that LDS has for "Emma Bety" in that same town. Also, I am convinced now that lots 246 and 225 are next to each other in Elmwood Cemetery and were at some point, combined into lot 225. This lot makes up the entire Beattie/Beatty burial place in Elmwood Cemetery in Bradford, Massachusetts. The "William Beatty" mentioned in my previous email is probably not Margaret's husband, but her brother in law or husband's cousin. Since her husband "James Beattie" died in 1880, there were no paper records for him in the cemetery office. The Superintendent told me that they didn't keep paper records until about 1900. I believe that Margaret Evans and Esther Evans married two Beattie brothers, but cannot find documentation to support that theory but both Esther and Margaret's last name is Evans. Margaret and James had one daughter, Lizzie, and Esther and Samuel had several children, Mary, Letitia, Lizzie, and Emma. The info on Emma's family is from the LDS database. Lizzie must have been a popular name. It looks like these Beatties produced no male children. Kim Shaw

    1. [BP2000] Beatties buried in Bradford Massachusetts
    2. Kim Shaw
    3. I managed to get to the cemetery on my trek from Texas to Massachusetts. The superintendent was very helpful, but unfortunately we could not find one of the lots, but I think I have figured out why. I was surprised to find out there were two lots where Beatties/Beattys were buried (supposedly). This was a revelation since 3 of us scoured the cemetery a few years ago until we found one Beattie plot. The super and I stared at the map for a long time and could not find lot 246. I also drove around and walked around for long time looking for it. Finally I gave up and went to talk to the super. He said "Yeah, there are a couple of lots that are in the records, but not on the map, that people have asked me to be on the lookout for." Like the others, I gave him my info and asked him to send me any info if he finds the plot in his mowing/maintenance travels through the cemetery. Also, there are more Beatties buried in lot 225 but no paperwork exists and the only information available is what is on the headstone. There are some Evans (Margaret Beattie's maiden name was Evans) and I believe I can barely make out the name Johnson on the stone, which I missed before. Here is everything I have: Elmwood Cemetery 96 Salem St. Bradford, Massachusetts Beattie/Beatty lots Lot 246 (the one we couldn't find) Paperwork yielded the following: William Beattie died: 6/3/1900 67 yrs 1 mos 18 days This is my great-great grandfather. Other records show his name as "James" so this was puzzling. I was thinking his name might be William James OR he is the second Beattie husband of my great-great grandmother. My great-grandmother's birth certificate lists James Beattie as her father, but there is no "James Beattie" shown in the cemetery records for this plot, which I find interesting. Margaret Beattie died: 10/09/1904 78 yrs 9mos 15 days Lizzie E. Allen (born Lizzie Jemima Beattie) d 6/3/1940 79 yrs 8 mos 15 days Edgar L. Allen (husband to Lizzie) d. 1/28/53, buried 1/30/53 90 yrs 3mos 15 days >From office computer: Emma W. Beatty 15 Lexington Ave Haverhill, Mass d.9/26/32 burr 9/28/32 72 yrs 26 days I have no idea if she is related to my Beatties. After thinking about this for a few days, I believe that lot 225 and 246 may be together in the same piece of ground. I later realized I already had Margaret Beattie's information from the headstone which is supposedly on lot 225, yet the records say she is buried in lot 246. The info I pulled off the headstone in lot 225 during my last visit is the same info they had in the records for lot 246. I took digital pictures of the headstone if the project would like to have them. Kim Shaw

ROBINSON – Robinson, Beattey, Hoskins, Bright, Nelson, #11125: Kentucky Genealogy and Biography, Volume IV, Battle-Perrin-Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Garrard Co. RICHARD M. ROBINSON was born near Ashland, in Fayette County, Ky., September 15, 1817, and was the son of Benjamin and Mary (Beattey) Robinson. His education was received at the old Bacon College, Georgetown, Ky. February 11, 1840, he married, in the county of Garrard, Miss Margaret Hoskins, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Bright) Hoskins, and to this union were born three children: Mary, Maggie and William. Though an excellent citizen and a man of broad and liberal charity, he was not a member of any church. He died at his home, Camp Dick Robinson, June 13, 1869, and in speaking of this event, the Frankfort (Ky.) Commonwealth took occasion to remark as follows: “When the events of yesterday and to-day have become a part of the facts of history, Richard M. Robinson will be read of as one of the patriotic faithful men, who unfolded the flag of his country above him when peril was in the breeze and the days were full of darkness, acknowledging no other allegiance and worshiping at no other shrine. To that spirit of heroism – that pure and exalted and holy patriotism – was due the founding on this farm, in 1861, by Gen. Nelson, of ‘Camp Dick Robinson,’ where the soldiery of the Union first marshaled in Kentucky and disciplined their ranks for the great contest that has ended in peace and liberty and National integrity. For years the sound of the drum and the fife broke the morning echoes in the vicinity of his home, and now they are gone and green grass grows where the bivouac fires were once lighted and the tents spread their white wings, and the sad vestiges of strife are swept away leaving peace and quietude, his soul finds a proper time to leave its frail tenement and to return to his father and its God. Buried with the honors of the Masonic brotherhood, of which he was a worthy member, and attended to the grave by the largest funeral procession ever witnessed in the county, his life journey is ended and his spirit at rest.” ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to KYBIOGRAPHIES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. We have yDNA samples in our BeattyDNA Project database from L-124 and L-294. Test results indicate that these two lineages are not closely related, even though they both apparently came through Stewartstown, Tyrone IRE. Unfortunately, we do not yet have samples from L-97, L-151, or L-180. If folks in those lineages could recruit DNA samples from them, we could get a pretty good idea if they are related to each other and to either L-124 or L-294. Les Beaty, L-20

    2. Most interested in exploring the possible connections. L294 My gr grandfather James Beatty born near Stewartstown ca. 1800. Right now, we are attempting to recover in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area from an historical flood of vast devastation, a 500 year event. My own home was high and removed from the flood plain, however, we had purchased and provided a home for our handicapped daughter who lived in the area of the flood. We evacuated her, a few clothes, medications, and her cat to live with us for a couple weeks until we were able to purchase a manufactured home for her and have since been moving her there. I will be interested in following what connection may be reported among the other lines from Samuel K. Beatty. Jim Beatty L294 **************Gas prices getting you down? 1. [BP2000] Anyone Recognize this New York Family
    2. All, I received the following inquiry on our BeattyDNA.org website about a Beatty family in New York. This comes from Charles Young. <<Hello, I have been unable to trace my Beatty Family roots beyond My Great Grandfather. His name was Martin Beatty 1881-1908, he is buried in the "Ellicott ST" Cemetery in Great Valley, NY. My granmother Mary (Beatty) Young 1906-1999, is his daughter. Thank you for your time. <<I did find out that besides my grandmother Mary, he had a daughter Catherine(1899-1962) that married a Forness, and he also had two sons that died of a young age due to TB. They were Martin Jr and Michael.>> I found a cemetery record showing Martin Beatty 1881-1908. I also looked at the 1910 census and found: In the 1910 U.S. Census of Salamanca Town, Cattaraugus Co., NY a Catherine Beatty, age 40, Head of Household, Widow, with 4 children: Martin, age 12, Catherine, age 10, Michel, age 6, and Mary A., age 4. This is undoubtedly Martin's surviving family. Something is a little peculiar about this family. The census shows Martin, Jr.'s age as 12. If he was Martin's son (and the name suggests such), that would have made Martin, Sr. about 17 when Junior was born and about 16 when Martin and Catherine were married. Catherine would have been about 28 when Martin, Jr. was born, and about 27 when she and Martin, Sr. were married. Something just doesn't look right about these ages and years. I have a hard time visualizing a 16 year old boy marrying a 27 year old woman. The census shows that Martin's widow was born in New York. I don't know if Martin was born in New York. Unfortunately, this family "daughtered out" when both sons died young. I also skimmed through the lineages on BP-2000 with no success. So, does anyone recognize this New York Beatty family? Les Beaty, L-20
