    3. Darrell, We have a website dedicated to answering many questions about our Beatty DNA Project. You will find it at: www.BeattyDNA.org To answer your specific questions: <<Could anyone tell me what the process of DNA testing entails and what the results of such testing will give you?>> The process is relatively simple. A participant orders a test kit from the company we use for our purposes. The kit contains a device with which the participant swabs the inside of his cheek. The swab is then mailed back to the laboratory. After a few weeks wait, the participant's haplotype is reported. We then compare that haplotype with the 170 other haplotypes already reported for other participants to see if there are any relationships among those participants. We encourage each participant to submit their lineage to BP-2000 so that relationships among lineages can be determined. <<would it tell you specifically who you ancestors are? Grandfather, Great Grandfather etc.?>> No, naming one of your specific ancestor who has been dead for 50 years is WAY beyond the capability of DNA analysis. But, it would be really neat if it could. The best the project can do is to point to possible connections between or among Beatty lineages where such connections were not known or suspected. Such information can potentially be helpful in focusing one's research into areas which might produce favorable results. Sharing of information by researchers of potentially related lineages can prove very helpful. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me at lbeaty@q.com. Les Beaty, L-20

    2. Donna, One thing I forgot to tell you. We may have a live Beatty from L - 331 that may be a candidate for DNA testing. That is why I am working on this. I will forward this information to the friend that I am helping. Barry H. 2. Donna, Thanks for the tip. Just before I looked at my E-mail, I was poking around in Armstrong Co, Pa find things that were getting interesting. I am going to be out of town tomorrow morning for a few days and I will try to put some of this together and see if I can get my head around this and get back to you. Thanks again. Barry H. 3. I think L-331 is probably part of L-142. It is a lot of circumstantial evidence. Anyone care to look and see? I have a lot of census plus the info in L-142. Is it enough to merge them? I believe they are brothers David Bole Beatty and John Campbell Beatty. Sons of L-142 John and grandsons of John and Martha Bole Beatty. Donna L-3 This is where I think they fit in L-142. 9. 2. Hello BP2000 Beatty Group, I am Barry H. Beattie, L-98. I have a friend looking for his Beatty Family Lineage. Does any one recognize this Beatty Family? Can you help us? This is all the info I have todate. Descendant Indented Chart 1. John Guthrie Beatty, b. 1826, Ireland +unknown spouse 2.David Bale Beatty, b. 1857 2.John Campbell Beatty, b. 1855, Butler, PA +Mary Carr, b. 1858, NJ 3. Dr. John Francis Beatty, b. 20 Mar 1889, IL +Lyla Grace Horney, b. 1887, IA 4. Mary Alice Beatty, b. 1914, WA +John Norman Aamodt , b. 1913, WA 4. John Henry Beatty, b. 1916, WA +Elizabeth Kurtz Carroll, b. 1918 Memoirs of John Francis Beatty M.D. (Partial) My mother, MARY CARR, was born in Trenton, N.J. of Irish parents, my father, JOHN CAMPBELL BEATTY, was born in Butler county, Pa, probably at least for several generations of Native Pennsylvanians. I was the youngest of five boys, no girls, and first saw the light of day on March 20th, 1889. The story is that my birthplace was over a mortuary and livery stable. I can’t vouch for that. At least I am satisfied that my parents were living in E. St. Louis, III at the time I was born. In those days, as now, the summers were terribly hot. Little was known of food protection or food preservation. The result was many children suffered from stomach and bowel disturbances. The mortality rate was high during the early period for children. I was not immune. I had been told that during my first summer, I spent many nights on the Eads Bridge in order to partake of the benefit of the cooling breeze found over the river. My uncle Dave and aunt Annie Beatty were of valuable assistance taking me onto the bridge. Details of this period are meager. This I have learned, my father began working in the steel mills and when I was about two years old moved to Bessemer, Alabama. Our next move found us in Cincinnati, Ohio. We arrived there in 1893. I understand those were stringent times. We (several words are unreadable) west of fountain square and only a few miles from the Indiana line. It was a small community but it means a lot to me. The B & O and the Big 4 main lines to Indianapolis passed our doors. This community was on the banks of what at that time, seemed to be a major river-the Ohio. During our nine years residence in Cincinnati, I saw that river overflow its bank and wreak havoc over a considerable area. My childhood impressions were that on both the Ohio and Kentucky shores high hills arose with their woods comprised of walnut trees, pawpaw tree and some hickory nut trees. I have recollection of going out in the fall of the year, with my father and gathering the fruits of thes! e trees. ……………………..

    3. I checked this out, and it is great!! Not just Arkansas--that's just where it starts. In the center part, go to "Collection: 1910 Census" and click on that. It will take you to another screen where you need to scan down nearly to the bottom to see the list of states. I haven't checked all of it out thoroughly, but I believe all the census records are on there. It is a big website and contains a lot of great things. Thanks so much, Guy!! Great site!! 3. I did Cecil co., MD Index back in 2001 and posted it-note Chester co., PA southern part became part of Cecil co., MD- Donna L-3 >From "Pitfalls in Genealogical Research" Pg. 66 Prior to the Revolutionary War parts of Pennsylvania were claimed by three other colonies because of contradictory charters granted by our kings to the founders. Connecticut claimed the upper third of Pennsylvania and over into Ohio. In the middle of the eighteenth century, two companies threw Connecticut settlers into the northeastern area of Pennsylvania, comprising the present counties of Luzerne, Wyoming, Columbus, Bradford, Lycoming, Montour, Susquehanna, Lackawanna, Pike, and Monroe. If you have an ancestor in that area and don't know where to go next, try the Connecticut State Library at Hartford, for your ancestor may have been among those who, in the 1750's, made the trek westward from Connecticut to Pennsylvania. Also your ancestor may be mentioned in the eleven-volume work The Susquehanna Company Papers. (The papers of the other colonizing group, the Delaware Company seem to have been destroyed.) Maryland claimed the lower fringe of Pennsylvania counties from a point above Philadelphia. Families who lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1763 may have found themselves in Cecil County, Maryland, after Mason and Dixon had completed their great survey in 1767. Virginia claimed the southwestern counties of Fayette, Westmoreland, Washington, and parts of Allegheny and Beaver counties, and created them (with certain counties now in West Virginia) into the District of West Augusta and attached it to Augusta County. Your ancestors in that part of Pennsylvania may have come from Virginia, and are recorded in Boyd Crumrine's Virginia Court Records in Southwestern Pennsylvania.1775-1780. These claims were not settled until after the Revolutionary War. Microfilm # 0013819 Cecil Co., MD Index to Deeds 1674-1810 The numbering on the films is one apparently assigned for filming purposes and can be ignored. The general index is to Liber and these numbers are provided as far as they can be determined. The first fourteen volumes are the same. 2. Thomas M. Beatty
    3. A UK site that provides the count of each surname in the UK, US & Australia. http://www.britishsurnames.co.uk/surnames/BEATTY By changing the search name you can see the count for any name, e.g., goto http://www.britishsurnames.co.uk/surnames/BEATTIE This site reports that the # of "Beattys" found in USA overwhelms the # in UK, whereas the "Beattie" variant is predominant in the UK. Also the etymology of names is given and this site supports the "Bartholomew" source. Beattie/Beaty/Beatty/Beatie/Beatey: Scottish/Northern Irish Patronymic name...derived from the name Bartholomew. Bate was a pet form of that given name, and sons of Bate might be known as Beattie, Beatty, or Beatey. A longer list of derivative names is provided when you search on "Beatty" at the site noted above. TomBeatty, 199
