Presbyterian Ministerial Directory 1898 1898 Presbyterian Ministerial Directory During the Summer of 1897, Edgar S. Robinson, D.D., was in the hospital recovering from surgery. While there, he realized that he had very little knowledge of the personnel of the Presbyterian Church. So, once recuperated, he endeavored to locate and record all ministers working for both the Northern and Southern Presbyterian churches of the United States. His work is recorded in the directory upon which this electronic database is based. All of the entries give the first and last name of the minister, and where he was working in 1898 when the original directory was published. This information can be extremely useful to those searching for person's who moved to a totally new location. Also, knowing what church the minister was serving may lead to other avenues of research. Most of the entries also contain valuable information about where the person was born, including a number who were born outside of the U.S in countries such as Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Canada. In some cases a birth date is also given. A date of Ordination is also given for a large percentage of the entries. Numerous ministers who were serving as missionaries outside of the United States are also included. Persons interested in obtaining more information about specific entries in the on-line version of this database are invited to contact the compiler, Amy E. Armstrong, via e-mail at Amyea@aol.com. I found the following link in an article by Jessie Sturdivant, in the September 2003 issue of "Morgan Memories" the publication of the Morgan County, Alabama Genealogical Society: http://www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/scc/scc-geolist.htm I went to this web page (a special collection section of the St. Louis Library) and abstracted the following Beatys. Alabama: St. Clair Co --William M. Beaty Arkansas Washington Co --Alexander Beatie Georgia Chattooga Co --Robert Beaty Whitfield Co -- Robert Batey and another claim for Robert Batey and John Hill Mississippi Rankin Co -- Wm H. Batte Prentiss Co -- Saml P. Beatty North Carolina Davie Co -- Henry Baity Tennessee Fentress -- Susan Beatty Rutherford -- Benjamin Batey I found no Beatys in SC, TX, VA, WVA. I will try and copy a few of these claims at the Archives. The article states that the files "consist of depositions from the claimant, his/her witnesses, and a list of articles/property 'taken' during the War Between the States, for which the claimant wishes to be reimbursed." A nice description of the claims plus a sample claim application can be found at: http://www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/scc/scc-main.htm Laurel Baty, L252

YES! That is the man! Does anyone else think he looks like your "Beatty Boys?" Thanks, Les! Since he has such a high security job, I did not think I would find anything about him on the Internet, so I did not try. From other sources we have that Jane Bell Beaty married James E[Evans?] Dent 17 May 1841, so wonder how to find this actual document? I'm curious regarding Mary, d/o Patrick, who married in 1785. Speaking of famous or near-famous Beattys, our Secretary of Transportation here in NC is a Beatty. As he is Black, I wonder if we have any Black members of BP2000. I have received a few hits on my web page from Black Beattys requesting information, and it would be great if I could refer them to members in BP2000. After all most of our immigrants from Africa have been here far longer than a lot of our Europeans. Thus they would have several generation on this side of the pond! I envy them in that after my gg grandparents I hit the Atlantic coast. T.M. Beatty, BPL-199 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
