Voila, I can finally add something to my tree. I have just received a death certificate for my paternal grandfather Goerge Wilkinson BEATTY. The only info I had about him was that which was on my father's birth certificate. Here goes: George W. BEATTY, born Dec 1876, died July 28, 1926. He was born in Brownsville, PA, to John H. BEATTY and Rachael SMITH both born in PA. He is buried in Southside Cemetery. He was the widower of Catherine Beatrice (MOORE, GARRITY) BEATTY who preceded him in death in January of 1925. An address is listed as 1448 Loraine St in Pittsburgh. The house is still there and pictured on the PA assessment site. Since I am unable to participate in the DNA program (all females) I am hoping to connect to another BEATTY somewhere along the way. I will be applying for a birth certificate with this new info and also cemetery records. Thank you, Bonnie GARRITY L 381

Nelda, <<4. Arthur Graham m. 1783 Elizabeth Beatty (d. 1852);>> This Elizabeth Beatty could be part of L-98. We don't have a spouse for that Elizabeth, although there's no rule that she's gotta have one. :) Also, there is close association of Grahams, Carruths, and Catheys with L-20, L-56, and L-98. Willie, I don't know who this Beatty was but there are a few references to the place on the net. It seems to be a popular hiking destination: Nice photos of the area where his cabin once stood: http://users.sisna.com/holokin/Photos/BeattysCabinPhotos/ http://slate.msn.com/id/2088073/ - refers to him as: "...eccentric 19th-century prospector. " ...Mike Allen -----Original Message----- From: Willie R Beaty [mailto:wbeaty@twlakes.net] Sent: Friday, January 09, 2004 5:34 PM To: BP2000-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BP2000] George Beatty, Prospector List, I have a book in my library which I picked up about 1990 on one of my trips to northern New Mexico. I was fishing in the upper Pecos River area and ran across it. It is entitled "Beatty's Cabin." written by Elliott S. Barker and published Calvin Horn Publishers in 1953. Barker was a U. S. Forester, and writes the book about the Upper Pecos Wilderness Area. Beatty's Cabin was the cabin of George Beatty from the 1870's 1880's. He met Mr. Beatty on a few occasions when he was a boy growing up in Northern New Mexico. My question: Does anybody know who this George Beatty was? His lineage? By the way, the book I bought was a 1985 reprinted edition, done by Bishop Printing and Litho, Portales, New Mexico.
