Just wondering if anyone from the lineages having DNA exactly matching L-112 have photographs of their early Beaty/Beatty/Beattie ancestors. The five brothers from L-112 shown at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wcbeatty/fivebros.htm were born between 1827 and 1832, quite a few limbs up in the old family tree. Are there any photographs of similar vintage available from lineages 4, 213, 243, 245 and 286?
I found out that this book is on genealogy.com! There is a huge section of Pennsylvania Biographies in genealogy.com Library collection with lots of Beattys. Some of the counties in the collection: Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Lancaster, York, central PA, Bucks and Allegheny as well as a 2 volume Encyclopedia of PA Biography. There are way too many for my limited typing ability. Here is the conclusion of the article: "...political circles; in religion he was a Presbyterian. He died in the year 1839, when sixty nine years of age, while his consort, who survived him, died in 1854, aged seventy-three." I will try and check more books at the DAR library to see if I can find a list of his children. The following was posted in December to the Beatty GENMATCH Project. Some of you who are not members of that group may be interested in the following which includes a couple of updates to the December posting......if not, just exercise your delete finger..... ************************************************* IN SEARCH OF "BUSTER" (Buster is the unknown Beatty who was the common ancestor of Beatty men from lineages 6, 2, 2C, 330, and 3 who have participated in the Beatty GENMATCH Project. Although not his parent, Earl Beaty named Buster.) Below are some genealogical notes on the probable descendants of Buster. I am very familiar with all the lineages mentioned except 330. The descendancies from the earliest ancestors to the individuals participating in our DNA project have been well-researched and documented. The DNA results, however, have provided us with some very exciting possibilities for further research which I discuss below. I encourage you to post any ideas you may have on this matter. The DNA results of the following Beatty males indicates that they have a common Beatty ancestor: 1. Lineage 6 - Dale Earliest proven ancestor - an Alexander Beatty (1772-1832). Secondary sources have him born in New York or Ireland. Alexander and descendants lived in what are now the WV counties, Monongalia, Marion, and Harrison. 2. Lineage 2 - Gary Earliest ancestor - a John Beaty (ca. 1725-1784) Cumberland Co PA. Some of his proven sons including Gary's ancestor, Alexander, were born in PA and migrated to the Cumberland Co KY/Clinton Co KY/Fentress Co TN areas. With them was Lineage 10 Martin Beaty, a supposed cousin. Martin was the proven son of an Edward Beaty (1726-1796) who died in Huntingdon Co PA. A county history has a Patrick Beaty as the earliest Beaty in the Huntingdon area. It states he had seven sons and specifically names one, a John Beaty. Although purely speculative at this point, Patrick's son John could be John of L2. 3. Lineage 2C - John T. Earliest ancestor - A William Beaty (ca.1764-1845) owned land near proven sons of L2 John Beaty in Cumberland Co KY. William and descendants migrated to MO. A daughter listed her father, William, as being born in PA. 4. Lineage 330 - William Proven ancestors living in Co Tyrone,Ireland in late 1800s. 5. Lineage 3 - Ray Lineage 3 proven George Beatty (ca. 1732-1810) died in Hampshire Co VA (now WV). Proven sons migrated to Monongalia/Preston Cos (now WV) and Ohio. George is the probable son of Robert Beatty born 1692-3 in Ulster Co NY. Robert is the proven son of Lineage 1 John Beaty b. ca. 1660 - d. 1720/21. John died in Ulster Co NY. He was probably from Ireland as his names a blind brother Thomas living in Ireland. One immigration source (secondary) states that John was from Ayrshire, Scotland. All of John's sons and grandsons are proven. We believe his grandson, George Beatty, born 1732 in Ulster Co NY, is the same as L3 George Beatty. The records for L1 George end about 1759 in Frederick Co MD and the records for L3 George begin in 1782 in Hampshire Co VA. L3 George two oldest daughters had the same names as those of L1 George. L3 George also lived in Hampshire Co VA in 1782 near the sister of L1 George. Research priorities: A. Additional DNA participants: 1. The various L2 branches to establish or validate the sons of John and Margaret. 2. The various L3 branches to further validate the sons and grandsons of George. 3. The various L6 branches to further validate the sons of Alexander. Getting participants from L5 and L19 might help to further identify Alexander's ancestry. 4. Currently we have no participants from L1 and L10. Results could help to validate L3's connection to L1 and L2's connection to L10. B. Additional genealogical research: 1. L330 - establish earlier generations. 2. Further research on early PA land records. 3. Further research on early L5 and L19 in NY. The research on early L19 (Washington Co NY) thus far has been limited. There were eleven Beatty households there in 1800. Am sure there are many additional potentially productive endeavors.....and from these early results in our Beatty GENMATCH DNA Project we are now convinced that the results can provide us valuable research leads. We should all work to recruit more Beatty male participants for the Project. Ray ******************************** Raymond C. You're ba-a-a-ck! First, for Laurel Baty and those looking into the GAR archives, I could not understand how to look anything up on the site. I wasn't successful in doing any kind of search, because I didn't know what I was supposed to do! I'm a glutton for punishment! I spent another very late night on my computer, and it isn't even the full moon! I found the film number of a marriage record for James (d. 1849), the father of my James Lewis Beatty/Beaty and his second wife, Anna Clayman. Does anyone have that record? I found a lot of interesting Beatty/Beaty info in old books on the Online Library through my Family Tree Maker. James Beaty found in: Marriage Index: Selected Counties of Ohio, 1789-1850 Married: Jan 10, 1826 in: Stark Co., OH Spouse: Clayman, Anna Gender: M More: Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT, Film # 0897628. Data Introduction For the last week I have been trying to find out where to write to ask for a birth record and a death record for my James IV, now James III (Well, we might just be going back to calling him James IV, afterall!). I just keep getting the run-a-round. There just HAS to be a birth and death record out there, or I would not have exact dates. I need to write to someone who will spend time looking, someone like a professional genealogist tied with a library, or perhaps, the state of Ohio, because all information online specifies that they don't have birth records before 1867. It works that way in Michigan, because our state has records that cannot always be found in the counties, and many of them are delayed birth records through Probate Court. If we can't go directly to the county, the state has records of all counties. Not so in NY or PA, but I don't know about OH or IN. Every time I try to do a search in "South Bend, IN," I get Michigan, South Bend is in St.Joseph County, Indiana. We know that James, b. 1819 was buried in Walkerton, St. Joseph Co., IN in North Woodlawn Cemetery, and there are no dates on his grave. I also found a history of "Symmes's Corner," and it has to be my James, because by 1855, his father had died. It is in Hamilton County on the pike leading to Cincinnati via Mt. Pleasant and College Hill in Hamilton County, population in 1855 was 115. It mentions and describes the land owned by James Galbreadth and James L. Beaty. It also mentions a Creton Wilcox (New Wilcox name for me!) and a Wilkinson Beaty (I've seen that name alot). Those Beattys/Beatys sure moved around a lot! That was what was told me over the phone by the man who was from this area and gave me the pedigree charts and biographies. One more thing I remembered yesterday. I received one of those "Out-of-the-Blue" emails over a year ago from the wife of man who was born a Beaty and was adopted. He has kept his adopted name, but he linked up with his father, who is is still alive and living in Florida. He is from one of the younger sons of the William Henry Beaty family. Wm. Henry was the oldest son of James Lewis Beatty and a brother of my great-grandfather, John Clinton Beatty. The woman pointed out that on my online tree, I only had the present wife of the father of her husband, whereas, the father of her husband had been married three times. The son, her husband, and his father had found each other, so all of that has been brought out into the open. So, I got curious again after reading the stack of e-mails we had produced. Well, I had kept them in an unmarked manila envelope, so it is amazing that I found them! The second wife was the mother of the child and her maiden name was DUDLEY. On the List a few days ago, we were discussing the two doctors Dudley. Evidently, the Beaty family married into the Dudley family more than a couple of times. Welcome back and how did you find our bone-chilling winter weather way up here? Have been out of town for over a week and just saw the flurry of information on Lineage 134 while I was gone. I can clarify some of the information that has been posted. James Beaty (b. 1782 PA - d. 1849, Stark Co.,OH) m. 1) Mary Jane Kahl (1787-1825) at Stouchsburg, Berks Co.,PA. James moved to Stark Co., OH c. 1819 and he and many of his descendants are buried in Massillon (OH) City Cemetery. James also had a brother John who moved to Stark Co. (Jackson Twp.) c. 1824. John, his wife, and two daughters are buried in Mudbrook Cem., Jackson Twp. John had only one son who grew to adulthood,(Gen.) Samuel Beatty, also buried in Massillon City Cemetery. Robert Beaty, brother of James and John, probably died in Franklin Co., PA after 1840. His wife and children may have lived briefly in Stark Co., and then moved onto Williams Co., OH. Nothing is known of a fourth brother, Hugh Beaty. James Beaty (1782-1849) had eight children by his first wife, Mary Kahl. They all grew to adulthood in Stark Co., OH. Three of these children moved to Williams Co., OH in 1845. These were his oldest son George, and daughters Sarah Beaty Shoemaker, and Mary Beaty McLaughlin. Another son John, moved to Seneca Co., OH and died there in 1877. His sons Henry and Jonathon Beaty, and daughter Hannah Beaty Zerbe lived their lives in Stark (or Summit) Co. Henry and Jonathon are buried in Massillon City Cemetery. Nothing was known about the eighth child, James (other than an 1880 census listing in Fulton Co., OH in the household of his brother-in-law and sister, Joseph and Mary McLaughlin). We have very recently found that this missing son, James (Lineage 134) is the James Lewis Beaty IV of Lineage 39. I have entered parenthesized comments on the listings given below. Chester Co, Lancaster Co, Cumberland Co thanks, Laurel.... Ray
I have gotten several requests for the missing section of the Allegheny Co Biography of Robert Beatty and I plan to copy this at the DAR Library sometime next week. I searched the DAR online catalog and found 68 other PA Biography titles for various counties. I would be happy to check any other PA counties of interest. Just let me know--you might respond to the list so that other people can see what has been requested. The DAR Library catalog is online at (make sure you check the option of titles that CONTAIN the word you are searching for vs the default "titles that begin with" the search word): http://www.dar.org/library/onlinlib.cfm Laurel Baty, L252
British Chancery Records, Volume I, 1386-1529 A.D. Online at Genealogy.com The Chancery Court handled civil disputes for all of England and Wales. Its records are now held at the Public Records Office (PRO) in London, England and begin in the late 14th century. In 1875 this court became the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice. Therefore, records for the Chancery Court exist from the late 14th century to 1875. This data collection is an index to the Chancery Court proceedings, which consist of bills of complaint, answers, replications, and rejoinders, from 1386-1529. The bill of complaint was what initiated the equity suit and was given by the plaintiff. The defendant would then provide an answer. The court process then allowed for a replication by the plaintiff, followed by a rejoinder from the defendant. Occasionally, the court allowed for further pleadings, and other times the pleadings did not even get that far. No Beatty, Beaty, Beatie, Beattie, Baity spellings. No listings whatever spellings in the 1300s. So most of the records are in the Library of Congress and their "stuff" is in the Smithsonian: Through the years the Library of Congress has acquired and incorporated into its general collections large numbers of published journals of the national and state encampments of the GAR. When the national office of the GAR closed in 1956, its collection of journals was added to those already donated to the Library. Physical mementos other than books and publications such as badges, flags, and things of that sort were donated to the Smithsonian Institution. Each office of a GAR post or department was responsible for maintaining its own files. Most of the local records are not available. Selected ones, however, were ultimately placed in manuscript and archival repositories. The location of extant GAR records can be determined by referring to A Guide to Archives and Manuscripts in the United States, edited by Philip M. Hamer (New Haven: Yale University Press, 1961; CD3022.A45), and the National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (Washington: Library of Congress, began with 1959/61; ceased with index 1991-1993; Z663.74.A43). http://www.loc.gov/rr/main/gar/garintro.html > -----Original Message----- > From: Laurel Baty [mailto:laurel.baty@verizon.net] > Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2004 3:53 AM > To: BP2000-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [BP2000] St. Joseph Co., Indiana Cemeteries > > Here is a link at the Library of Congress about the GAR [Grand Army of the > Republic]: > http://www.loc.gov/rr/main/gar/ > > Laurel Baty wrote: > > > I think the GAR marker was probably requested by one of your James L.'s > > children, because he was in the Civil War.
