Original data: Biographical Encyclopedia of Kentucky of the Dead and Living Men of the Nineteenth Century. Cincinnati: J. M. Armstrong, 1878. pg. 203 Beatty, Prof. Ormond, A. M., President of Centre College, was born in Mason County, Kentucky, on the 13th of August, 1813. His father, Judge Adam Beatty, was a lawyer of prominence, a personal and political friend of Henry Clay, and circuit judge of Mason County for twelve years. Prof. Beatty acquired the principal part of his early education at Washington Academy, in his native county, finishing, however, at Centre College, Danville, from whence he graduated, in 1835. Before graduating, he was tendered the professorship of Natural Science in Centre College, which he accepted and entered upon, after spending one year at Yale College. In 1847, he was transferred to the Chair of Mathematics, which he filled for a short time only, returning to that of Natural Science. In 1872, he was elected President of Centre College, which office he still retains. Among his pupils who have acquired distinction, may be mentioned the names of John C. Breckenridge, Gov. McCreary, Joseph C. S. Blackburn, John Young Brown, Prof. Chenault, and Gen. John M. Harlan. While a student at college, President Beatty united with the Presbyterian Church, and has been an elder and occupied other prominent positions, in that church. In 1839, he was married to Miss Sarah L. Rochester, of Boyle County, and in 1848, to Mildred Ann Bell, sister of the celebrated Joshua F. Bell, and daughter of David Bell, a prominent merchant of Danville. One child has blessed each of these marriages. A man of great natural ability and eminent scholastic attainments; and although modest and retiring in his tastes and habits, he is one of the most thorough, able, accomplished, and successful among all the Presidnents of Centre College. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BOYLE COUNTY, KY Marriages Beatty, O. & Bell, Ann- Nov 9, 1848 (L-1)Wife # 2 Beatty, George-Rowe, Susan A.-Dec 8, 1869 Beatty, Ormond-Boyle, Elizabeth O.-Jul 7, 1879 (wife # 3) Batey, Phillip M.-Duggins, Mary F.-Nov 21, 1867 MERCER COUNTY, KY Marriages Beatty, Ormand & Rochester, Sarah L.-Sep 19, 1839 (L-1)Wife # 1 Scott, Robert & Bady, Jane-Apr 25, 1807 Watts, John & Boathe, Lydia-Jun 20, 1824 Preston, S.J.-Beatty, Salinda J.-Dec. 8, 1870 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 1840 Mercer co., KY pg. 155 Ormond Beaty (next family is Joshua F. 1. [BP2000] Bios In History of Venango Co PA
    2. >From "History of Venango County Pennsylvania Its Past and Present" Brown, Runk & Co., Publishers, 1890 page 689-690 Jackson Township Pioneers It is a matter of definite tradition that ROBERT BEATTY was the first settler within the limits of this township and in the valley of Sugar creek from its mouth to Townville, Crawford County. Very little is known concerning his personal history. He came to this locality from one of the eastern counties of the state, probably as early as 1796, as his name occurs on the ledgers of both George Power and Edward Hale prior to 1800. At that point in the course of Sugar Creek where it is crossed by the southern line of Jackson township the valley of the stream is fully half a mile wide. The channel of the creek is near the bluffs on the east, leaving a level expanse of meadows with a gradual slope from the west. At an early date this was called the "the prairie." It was not covered with a dense forest like the surrounding country but merely with a thick growth of underbrush, and was readily reduced to cultivation. Here Robert Beatty made his settlement and lived to the end! of his life. He reared four sons: John, Francis, Samuel, and Robert; and seven daughters: Mary, Nancy, Sarah, Elizabeth, Isabel, Ann, and Lila. John was the father of the Reverend Robert Beatty, a well-known minister. In politics Mr. Beatty, Sr., was Democratic. Of Scotch extraction, he was Presbyterian in his church connection and gave the ground upon which Sugar Creek Church was built. He died May 16, 1823, in the sixty-third year of his age, and is buried under a clump of trees on the Shaw farm. On the previous day he had attended the funeral of Mrs. John Wilson and is said to have remarked that his own death was likely to occur soon. Its suddenness created a profound sensation. Page 1004 SAMUEL BEATTY, pumper and oil producer, was born in 1845, in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is the son of William and Mary (English) Beatty, of Scotch-Irish ancestry. William Beatty was a member of a regiment that was raised in Pittsburgh to serve in the Mexican War, and was killed in one of its hardest battles. Our subject received his education in the public schools of his native city, and was employed in the iron mills there until March 29, 1864, when he enlisted in Company H, One Hundred and Sixteenth Volunteers, and served until the close of the war. He was wounded at Cold Harbor June 3, 1864, and on recovering was transferred to Company I, Sixteenth Reserves. After being mustered out he returned to Pittsburgh and engaged in farming in the vicinity of that city, subsequently removing to Lawrence county. In June, 1877, he came to Venango county, and engaged in coal mining for Findley Surrenna and afterwards worked for the Phillips Brothers, oil producers, with whom he remained four years. In 1882 he entered the employ of J. N. Hovis, with whom he has since remained, being interested in two producing wells. He was married in 1863 to Sarah B. Haslet, who died in 1873 leaving four children: William J.; Andrew S.; Samuel W., and Thomas J. In December, 1876, he was married to Mrs. Miranda E. Jacobs nee Surrenna, and by this union has on! e son, Edward E. Mr. Beatty is a Republican and a member of John M. Phipps Post, G. A. R. Page 1137 H. B. BEATTY, junior proprietor of Oakwood Rose Gardens, was born August 16, 1857, in Mercer county, son of E. S. and Agnes (Braham)Beatty. The father was born in 1824 in Butler county, near the Venango line, and his parents, Henry and Margaret Beatty, had the following children: Elizabeth; Jane; Ebenezer S.; Annie; Mahalah; Henry; David; John; Margaret; and Valentine. E. S. Beatty was the father of nine children: Melvina; Ralph; Mary; H. B.; Calvin; Viola; John; Agnes and Le Roy. H. B. Beatty was educated in the public schools of Rouseville, State Normal School at Edinboro, and Business University of Rochester, New York. He began for himself in producing oil. July 28, 1879 he was married to Miss May L., daughter of O. H. Strong, and has four children: Hollis S.; Minnie A.; Lorraine, and Eda Lois. Mr Beatty was once clerk of Cornplanter township, is a member of the Second Presbyterian church, and votes the Republican ticket. Laurel Baty, L252

    3. Hi Judi, Sometimes I like to just work on someone elses problem. I went to family search and input Stauffer.. with out a first name you have to go through everything that comes up.. Spent some time there ..There are quite a few.. Then I wnet to Google and used advanced search in putting Beaty, Beatty and Stauffer.. I got results.. After that I went bach to familysearch.com and input the name and found her Sarah Stauffer Beaty at the item I found she matches with birth info and place and parents.. But it shows her marrying a Grove..You should try Sarah Grove marrying a Beaty... I would contact the site owner at the link I'm including and see if the have extra info on her.. Hope this all helps you..Nelda Website contact info... 1. [BP2000] L2 Researcher List
    2. I've been trying to put together a list of L2 researchers with their relationships. I used the email addresses from the lineage data for researchers, but I'm not sure if I was able to contact everyone -- especially with all the AOL problems lately. If you are a member of L2 and would like to have your info included, please send me a brief outline of your branch of L2. It should show how you are related to our progenitor John BEATY who was married to Margaret MONTGOMERY. Here's mine. My Mother was a BEATY and my branch of L2 goes like this: John and Margaret (MONTGOMERY) BEATY -- PA, NC, VA, TN Alexander and Catherine (TRAVIS) BEATY -- Clinton Co., KY (John) Allen and Emily (CROCKETT) BEATY -- Clinton Co., KY Pleasant Alexander and Sarah Matilda (EVANS) BEATY -- Left Clinton Co., KY in 1880 and settled in Jones Co., TX in 1886 George Harrison and Lila (LYTLE) BEATY (my grandparents) -- Munday, Knox Co., TX When I get all the replies, I'll compile them and send out another email to all the contributors. (Hopefully, AOL will let me do that by then.) This should give us a better idea of how our family tree full of cousins fits together. Thanks, Nel Rocklein L2 Newnan, GA

He couldn't be their child as William was born in 1883.. Will he share his lineage with all of us? Martin's father is William, William's father John is brother to my Alexander's line.. so we share hertitage.. Thanks Nelda Nelda L.
