    3. Robert Beatty, Company "E" 30th Iowa Infantry, widow Angelina Beatty, Guardian W. Casteel (minor's certificate #130,141) On January 4th, 1864 Angelina Beaty, aged 32 and residing near Tannery, Preston County, West Virginia filed a widow's claim for Army Pension. Angelina states that she is the widow of Robert Beaty, "late of Washington County, State of Iowa," who was a 2nd Sergeant in Company "E" commanded by Capt. William Burgess in the 30th Regiment of Iowa Volunteer Infantry and who died November 9, 1862 at Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa of sickness while in the service of the United States. Angelina Kelley married Robert Beaty on April 3, 1851 at her father's House in Preston County, West Virginia. Robert Beaty had three children under the age of sixteen at his death: James E. Beaty age 11; Joseph A. Beaty, age 7 years; Robert P. Beaty aged 2 years. All of the children now reside near Tannery, West Virginia. William T. Kelley and Maria H. Kelley state that they were present at the wedding of Angelina and Robert Beaty. There is a Certificate of Marriage written by William Smith of Morgan County, Ohio and dated August 13, 1864 stating that Wm Smith, Minister of the Gospel of the Methodist Episcopal Church married Robert Beaty and Angelina Kelley on April 3, 1851 at Preston, Virginia. William Burgess, late Captain of Company "E" 30th Regiment of Iowa Infantry states on January 18, 1866: "Robert Beaty deceased late a Sergeant in Company "E" 30th Regiment of Iowa Vols was taken with chronic Disentry (sic) terminating in paralysis while at Keokuk Lee County, Iowa on or about November 9th 1862 which was the cause of his being sent to Estus hospital in Keokuk, Iowa that said disease was caused by exposure in camp and contracted while in the Service of the United States." A marriage License from Preston County West Virginia for William Casteel (28 years old and single) and Angeline B. Beatty (32 years old and widowed), both of whom were born in Preston County, Virginia is in the file. William' s parents are listed as Thos and Hulda Casteel and Angeline's father's name is given as Joseph Kelley (her mother's name is not given). The marriage between Angeline Beatty and William Casteel occurred on April 19, 1866. William S. Casteel was appointed guardian to the minor heirs of Robert Beaty (James E., Joseph A. and Robert P. Beaty) on March 19, 1867 in Allegheny County, Maryland. On August 30, 1867 Sarah Beatty, aged 53 and a resident of Washington County, Iowa states that she was in attendance at the birth of James E. and Robert P. Beatty. On October 1, 1867 Dorcus Kelley, aged 67 and a resident of Preston County, West Virginia states that she was in attendance as a midwife in the birth of James E., Joseph A. and Robert P. Beatty. On January 18, 1869 William S. Casteel, aged 30 and a resident of Allegheny County, Maryland, applied for Pension as Guardian of the minor children of Robert Beatty. He gives the following date of birth for the minor heirs of Robert Beatty: James E. born June 7, 1852, Joseph A. born May 26, 1856, Robert P. born July 31, 1861. Pension was granted and commenced Nov. 9, 1862 and continued until the youngest heir, Robert P. Beatty, reached 16 years of age on 30th July, 1877. 1860 Dutch Creek Twp, Washington County, Iowa, p359 Robt Beaty 31 m VA Angelina 28 f VA James E. 8 m VA Joseph 4 m Iowa James Beaty 58 VA Sarah 55 VA John 24 VA Louisa 22 VA Martha 20 VA Huldah 18 VA Luez 14 VA J. 3. In this deed William and Thomas Beatty sons of Thomas and Sarah Turner Beatty of L-198 reference their inheritance from their great uncle Thomason Ellzey, deceased of Fairfax co., VA. These deeds copied by Ray Beatty and excerpted by Donna VanZandt. L-198 William Beatty married to Sally/Sarah Yocum and Thomas is married to Henrietta James and Joseph are probably L-198 but since land descriptions of both mention land of George Beatty, deceased heirs or land of Thomas Beatty. They were probably neighbors. Plus taking into account Geo. Beatty of L-9 married previous to Sarah we have a lot of unknown Beatty males born previous to 1800 in Montgomery co., KY. Montgomery co., KY Deeds Vol. 12 pg. 115 This indenture made and entered into this 17th day of January 1825 by and between William Beatty and Thomas Beatty of the one part and John S. Yocum, David Yocum and George McCullough the following property, to wit, one waggon and four pair of gears and four horses being the same that the said Thomas and William bought from the said Yocum and five feather beds and their furniture and also all other interest that the said William and Thomas hold to the estate of Thomison Elsy, decs'd formerly a resident of Fairfax county state of Virginia, but let it be plainly understood that this mortgage is only given to the said Yocum and McCullough to secure to them the title that James Beatty and Joseph Beatty hold on the tract of land that the said William Beatty, Thomas Beatty and Polly Beatty sold to the said Yocum and McCullough and the said Joseph and James Beatty holding a deed to the same land but let it be further understood that if the said Thomas Beatty and William Beatty or either of them do make or cause to be made to the said Yocum and McCullough or either of them all the title that the said Joseph and James Beatty hold on the tract of land above described within twelve months from this date then the said Yocum and McCullough shall have no claim on none of the property above emtioned after recovering the title before mentioned but let it be understood that if the said Thomas and Will Beatty should fail in conveying the title of the said Joseph and James Beatty within twelve months or cause the same to be done the said John S. Yocum, David Yocum and George McCullough shall have and hold all the property above described for their own use and benefit. 3. L-198 was also in Mont. co., KY and from deeds living on land whose boundaries touched the land of L-9 George Beatty. I would like to post this as circumstantial evidence that the wife of Thomas Sr. was Sarah Turner (as stated in the file) and in the next posting post a deed of primary source that the grandchildren of Thomas, Sr. were the heirs of Sarah Turner Beatty. Note this Sarah Elzey had a brother Thomason Ellzey who never married and died circa 1817 leaving an estate. The Fairfax deeds show Thomas, Sr. Beatty and Thomason Ellzey in a deed. I believe This Thomas of Loudoun is the same Thomas of Montgomery co., KY. Thomason Ellzey of Fairfax co., VA would be an uncle to Sarah Turner Beatty and a great uncle to Nancy, Sally, Mary, James, Thomas, William and Joseph Beatty of L-198 and children of Thomas and Sarah Turner Beatty. 3. This is the Joseph from the 1830 census as far as I have tracked him. The problem is Montgomery co., MO is a burn county. All the records destroyed in a fire in 1864. No marriages to track the children but there must be a Calloway connection in 1858. L-9 Malinda/ Milly Beaty from deeds married a Mathew Adams and I want to see if I can find them. From looking at the 1840 Chariton/Carroll Co., MO census, I would bet that there is an L-2 connection. Around 1800 L-2 has brothers Andrew, Alexander, James, & William living in Cumberland [later Clinton] Co., KY and the other close relatives/supposed brothers John, George, David and Pleasant just across the state line in what became Fentress Co., TN. Before at least 1777 until about 1800 the family was in the area that became Sullivan Co., TN. Records of the family have turned up in Washington Co., VA and probably will be in earlier VA counties to which the area first belonged as well.
