    1. [BOYLE-L] SAMUEL BOYLE
    2. John Mellon
    3. Samuel BOYLE, born abt. 1830, Ireland, possibly Donegal, arrived in NYC in 1850 with wife Catherine McCAULEY. The family left in 185l to join two brothers in Philadelphia. The brothers names are currently unknown, but one brother's name may have been Charles Boyle. All were employed as stone cutters. Samuel died in Philadelphia in 1857 leaving his widow and two sons: The oldest was JOHN J. BOYLE (1851-1917) famous Phila. artist known for his statues of Ben Franklin now on the U of P. campus along with other statues in Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington D.C. He married Elizabeth Carrol in Philadelphia in 1882. The youngest son, my grandfather, WILLIAM D. BOYLE, (1852-1905) was the owner of several taverns, one at 21st and Passyunk Ave. in Philadelphia. He married Ellen Connor in 1881. I would be happy to hear from anyone researching the Boyle line and particularily those in Philadelphia or elsewhere who may be related to the two Boyle brothers whom Samuel joined in 1851.
