The Jacobites won but did not pursue and thus made a dreadful mistake because the Highland army was a volunteer group which was not easy to keep together. It is believed that they should have struck while they were a cohesive unit. The regrouping that took place resulted in volunteers going home to tend their herds. In 1855 "Fiona MacLeod" (William Sharp), Scottish poet and prose writer, was born. In 1873 John Joseph Kneen, Manx language scholar, author of A Grammar of the Manx Language, was born. Looking back at the 11th of September, Wallace was victorious at Stirling Bridge in 1297 and Cromwell massacred the town of Drogheda, Ireland in 1649. Submitted by John Laughland
