My great greatgrandfather left there in 1870 with his family. Some family relatives did remain behind.
I have Boyles in my family and was wondering where Sligo City is located? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Web Hosting - Let the expert host your web site http://webhosting.yahoo.com/
I have Boyle ancestors who came to America from Ireland, Sligo Port on the ship Hanna in June of 1847. They landed in New Brunswick, Canada and spent a few weeks in the hospital recovering from illness. They were John 35, son James 16 and son Henry 13. They all moved to Brooklyn, NY. I have a record of the marriage of Henry in 1853(in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Brooklyn) to Adelia Dillon. Witnesses were Eugene Walsh and Ellen Cafsels. The Priest was F.O O'Farell. They had a daughter Emma b. 15 Oct. 1854 and sons James b. 1855, Frank b. 1857 and George (my grandfather) b. 5 Sept. 1866 all in Brooklyn. I found them in the 1870 US Federal Census in Brooklyn and in the 1880 Fed. Census in San Francisco, CA. Adelia evidently died in 1876 and is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Colma, CA (south S.F.) Henry died in San Luis Obispo Co. but is also buried in Colma in 1889. Records of Emma and James were lost due to the 1906 earthquake but Frank and George moved to Shasta Co. in N. CA They did live in Chicago Ill. for some brief time between 1870 and 1876. I have not found records there but the daughter Emma was married there to Michael Girty. I am looking for their place of birth and residence in Ireland. Any help would be appreciated. I would like contacts in Sligo City. Hi Louise I may be wrong about this but because they left from Sligo doesn't definitely mean that was where they originated from. Do you have any other evidence that strengthens this thought? The reason I am saying this is that you may be going off at a tangent. Do you know if John had any siblings because my gggrandfather Charles Boyle came to Scotland about the same time. He had two daughters Ann born about 1833 and Mary born about 1836 and one son James born about 1841. I hope you don't mind my suggestion and if you see any connection please contact me raybethb@campsie9.fsnet.co.uk Beth Bradley ----- Original Message ----- From: "LOIS HOLCOMB" <LOCOMB@cruzio.com> To: <BOYLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 28, 2002 7:17 PM Subject: Re: [Boyle] Boyle family from Sligo City > > I have Boyle ancestors who came to America from Ireland, Sligo Port on the ship Hanna in June of 1847.
