    3. John, Wish I could help but my "John Boyle" emigrated here from Ireland in 1865. The only information I have is from his marriage certificate. He married Clara Annie Freeman at St Mary's Church, Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1884. He was 34 years of age, a soldier in the 28th Regiment living in Cambridge Barracks, Portsmouth. His father was Henry Boyle, a railway porter. They raised a large family in Portsmouth but for some reason neither he nor his wife are shown anywhere on the 1901 census. I have no idea where he was born so I cannot find him on the 1881 census. I suspect he was from Ireland and was recruited when the regiment visited Ireland. Unfortunately, I do not have a service no. for him to check army records. Can anyone help?
