Hi Pamela, Do you by any chance know the parents of your Charles Boyle? I have a Charles Boyle who could be his father, only because of his dob. My Charles was married to a Helen Gallocher and when I first find them it is in the 1851 Census of the Parish of Campsie, Stirlingshire Scotland. They have three children Ann born about 1833, Mary about 1836 and James my ggrandfather 1841. What if the first child had been a boy and now aged about twenty one decided to go to another country. All speculation I know but wouldn't it be great to be able to join them up. Hearsay places my Boyle's in the Glenties area of Donegal. I don't even know if this Charles Boyle relates to my Boyles. What I do know is that in 1924 my grand-aunt, Mary D. Boyle, was sent a postcard by her brother in care of Dr. Boyle in Hazleton, PA. The Boyle family living at the address on the postcard, according to the city directory, was the Edward Boyle family, whose parentage I have traced back to Charles Boyle. There was no Dr. Boyle in the city directory, so that may have been a joke. From the few postcards retained, my grandfather's humor appears to be a bit quirky. This particular card says, "Come west, wheat sells for $1.50 bushel" Was it just a coincidence that Mary Boyle was living in the Edward Boyle household? Was she a lodger or a relative? And somehow, I bet, that this Edward Boyle family ends up with the present Boyle family that has owned the Boyle Funeral home in Hazleton. My lineage starts at John Boyle, a tailor, who was in Carbon county in 1850 and moved to Hazleton sometime between the 1850 and 1860 census. Pam
I posted information on this family and now have found what I believe are the parents of Edward, Bridget, Annie, and Catherine: 1850 census, Hazle, Luzerne PA Boyle, Charles, age 30, m, Ireland --Rose, 27, f, Ireland --Biddy, 4, f, PA --Edward, 2, m, PA --Ann, 4/12, f, PA Quinn, Michael, 35, m, Ireland Gillespie, Charles, 60, m, Ireland 1860 census, Hazle, Luzerne, PA Boyle, Charles, 35, m, Ireland --Rose, 38, f, Ireland --Bridget, 13, f, PA --Edward, 12, m, PA --Ann, 10, f, PA --James, 8, m, PA --Catherine, 6, f, PA --Susannah, 1, f, PA 1870 census Hazleton borough, Luzerne, PA Boyle, Rose, 49, f, Ireland --Edward, 20, m, PA --James, 17, m, PA --Catherine, 13, f, PA --Susan, 9, f, PA --Charles, 8, m, PA 1880 census Hazleton, Luzerne, PA Boyle, Rose, w, 59, Ireland --James, 27, PA, school teacher --Charles, 18, PA --Susie, 21, PA This doesn't resolve why my grand aunt or great aunt, Mary D. Does anybody know that they come from Armagh or Cavan?
> > >Does anybody know that they come from Armagh or Cavan? > According to MacLysaght's, The Surnames of Ireland, the Boyles come from north west part of Ireland. I had an 1920 postcard written to Mary D. Boyle from her brother and my grandfather, William J. Boyle. The postcard was addressed to her in care of Dr. Boyle, living at 137 Wyoming St., Hazleton, PA. A person on the Luzerne county list was able to check city directories for Boyle families and found an Edward Boyle living at that address in 1921-1926. I went back and traced Edward Boyle on censuses: 1880 Hazleton, Luzerne, PA Boyle, Edward, 30, PA, brakeman, parents Ireland --Annie, wife, 28, PA, parents Ireland --Edward, son, 2, PA --Mary, daughter, 1 month, PA Crossin, Rosey, other, 20. Catherine is the wife's name. Tracing the Daniel Fallon family back, I find an Annie Boyle, 28, b. PA, listed as other living with them in 1880. So I've got an Edward, Bridget, Catherine, and Annie Boyle who are apparently siblings. Does anyone know these Boyles? There was a family tree on the Daniel Fallon family, but the email bounces. Pam

Kelly, I'm looking for information on John Boyle who was born in 1863 in Ireland and emigrated from Cork to the U.S. in 1865. Your Michael's birth year of 1857 is close to John's. Might they have been related? Sadly, John either couldn't or wouldn't speak of his family of origin other than that his Mother and Father (and he of course) were from Ireland. He never spoke of brothers but that is a distinct possibility. John somehow got to Ohio and lived with a farming family there until he came to Atchison County, Kansas and married my great-grandmother, Mary Eliza Olden, and raised a family. Here is the website for Rootsweb Password Central where you can check 'To which lists am I subscribed?' and then you will get a list and it will help you to remember to unsub to each list. You can do it with one email addressed to all your lists, remembering to add 'request' after the L or D.
