    3. Well, another one has hit the internet and this one is bad if you use Windows 2000 and Windows XP....it is a worm/virus called Blaster and today closed down the Maryland DMV...made national TV and is at a high threat assessment in less than 24 hours according to Norton. Check it out at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html Again, don't open attachments, keep your windows up to date, check out Microsoft for patches, have an up to date virus program and keep it current and....scan your computer frequently, at least once per week. 1. [Boyle] Magherafelt - Boyle connections to Macrory and / or Hillman
    2. Charles and / or Marjolein Hillman
    3. Somewhere round 1910 my grandfather (an itinerant American born in Chile) undertook genealogical researches in Ireland. Surviving records of what he discovered are incomplete, but he referred in a letter to a cousin identified as Judge Boyle active in Dublin or Belfast or both. I think Judge Boyle was mentioned because he had achieved a certain status. My grandfather also met two elderly brothers of the Macrory family who at that stage operated a flour mill in Limavady - in that same district. His ancestor, John Hillman 1805 - 1864, had arrived 1824 in upstate New York from the Coleraine district of Ireland. John arrived stateside with his own parents - Arthur Hillman 1781-1847 and Catherine Mortimer Fleming / Hillman 1789 - 1847 - and, probably, with a good many siblings. Research by a cousin indicates that these Hillmans were baptised - where records have been located - in Magherafelt, Ireland (these days in Northern Ireland). We think we have pinned down the Hillman - Macrory connection. It comes via Margaret Hillman 1757 - 1834 who married to Robert McCrory 1764 - 1840 (who changed the spelling of the name to Macrory). My purpose with this note is to ask if anyone researching genealogy of the Boyle family in (or near) Magherafelt has come across any kinship connections to members of the Hillman or Macrory families. Thank you, if appropriate, for any inputs you are able to share. Charles Hillman

    1. [Boyle] Robin James Boyle
    2. Dave Rossiter
    3. Dear all, It is my sad duty to report the passing of Robin James Boyle who died peacefully at home on Friday 25th July 2003. Robin was a well known and much loved radio presenter and host of the 'Friday Night is Music Night' show for around 36 years. Robin's career in broadcasting spanned over 50 years, from 'British Forces Broadcasting' to the BBC. He will be sorely missed by his widow and family. Genealogical Notes: - Robin was the son of James John Boyle & Mary (Molly) Hogan, both from Clonmel, Tipperary, Eire. He was born in Folkestone, Kent in 1927 where his father was serving with the RAF. Robin had one brother Michael (with whom contact has been lost for many years) and a sister who died at an early age. If anyone has any information regarding James John Boyle, or indeed the whereabouts of Michael Boyle I would be most grateful to receive it. All the best Dave Rossiter (Robin's Son in Law)

    3. I want to warn everyone of a new virus/worm. My server actually warned me because the email will look like it comes from your server/ISP but will have an attachment. Here is what they wrote: > You may have recently received an email or emails that appear to come > from "admin@sbcglobal.net," "admin@pacbell.net," "admin@swbell.net," > "admin@ameritech.net,” or similar address. This email is forged and > contains a virus inside a file usually named "message.zip" or contains > a subject line that includes the words "your account." To protect your > computer, please delete the email immediately and do not open the > attachment. The worm is called 'W32.Mimail.A@mm' and was just discovered yesterday. You can read about it here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mimail.a@mm.html Again, I am going to take this time to remind you to get virus protection, if you don't have it. Get a subscription for Norton or another to keep your protection current. This worm was discovered yesterday, and as soon as I got on line, my virus protection was updated on my computer so if I get a email with the worm attachment, I will be warned by my Norton AntiVirus program. If you have a virus program, you should run your update program so you will get protection against this new one. Since I am going away tomorrow and will be using my laptop, I just renewed my Norton subscription for the laptop to protect it when I am away and only using the laptop to get my mail. It cost me $14.95 for the year, a bargain compared to repairing your computer after a worm or virus has infected it. Feel free to write me if you have questions. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

    3. Hello list, I am trying to find out about my wife's ggrandfather, John BOYLE. The only information I have is from his marriage certificate. He married Clara Annie Freeman at St Mary's Church, Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1884. He was 34 years of age, a soldier in the 28th Regiment living in Cambridge Barracks, Portsmouth. His father was Henry Boyle, a railway porter. They raised a large family in Portsmouth but for some reason neither he nor his wife are shown anywhere on the 1901 census. I have no idea where he was born so I cannot find him on the 1881 census. I suspect he was from Ireland and was recruited when the regiment visited Ireland. Unfortunately, I do not have a service no. for him to check army records. Can anyone help? John

    3. A week from today I will be starting a three month long trip that will take me to PA, NY, DC, MA, CT and Ireland. While I will have my laptop with me, I won't be on line as often as when I am home. At best, I'll be able to check the lists and my email once a day but at times it might be less so I would like to give a short tutorial on how to troubleshoot some of your mailing list problems you may encounter and if you can't reach me quickly this my help you to solve your problem(s). Today I received and email from someone who said she hadn't received any emails from a particular list for a few days...okay, to solve this problem, you need to know was the list just slow or was something wrong with her subscription to it? Here's two ways to check: 1. Go to the lists archives and see if any emails have been posted to the list that you have not received. Use the browse function and then sort chronologically. If there has been messages posted that you haven't received, check to see if you are still subbed to the list, see #2. 2. Go to Rootsweb's Password Central and request a list of all the mailing lists that you are subscribed to. Suppose you try to unsubscribe from the list and it doesn't work or you get a message that you are not subscribed to the list but you continue to receive mail from it: 1. If you sent the unsubscribe message to the list, it won't work. 2. Do you belong to the L version and trying to unsub from D or do you belong to D and trying to unsub from L? 3. Did you forget to add 'request' to the email address. 4. Do you have more than one email address, and trying to unsub with the one that is not subbed to the list? You sent a message to the list, and it did not post: 1. Did you use the correct address? 2. Did you include 'request' in your address? This is only used to sub and unsub, not post. 3. Did you send it to 'D'? All member both L and D subscribers, use L to post messages. 4. Do you have more than one email address and you sent it with the one that is not subbed to the list? Here are some Rootsweb mailing lists websites, that I suggest you bookmark: The index of all the Rootsweb mailing lists. Each list has it's own webpage, where you can email the listowner if you don't know her/his name and email address. At the webpage you can also, subscribe or unsubscribe to the list and access the lists archives through browse and search functions. If you click on 'browse', you can look at the list's messages by month. Once you click on the month, you will get all the titles of the messages posted that month, at the top you can set your view for chronological order, by date. If you click on 'search', you get to search on your key word(s) by year. http://lists.rootsweb.com If you can not find our mailing list, please write to the list and I'll be happy to show you how to find it. By writing to the list, everyone will learn. The password central is another good place to bookmark. Here is the place where you can find what lists you are subscribed to: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Where is says, 'E-mail address with which you registered for any of the below:' put in your email address (if you have more than one, you will have to repeat the process for each one). Then go to 'Mailing Lists:' and click the box that says, "To which lists am I subscribed?' You will then receive, to the email address you inserted in the box, all the lists that are subbed to that address. If you lose this link, go to the Rootsweb home page (http://www.rootsweb.com), under Help, you will find a link for 'Password Central'. I hope the above helps. If you have anymore questions, about mailing lists, please feel free to email your questions to the list. I have a week to fully explain how you can help yourself, in case it takes more than a day or two to reach me. I also want to thank all of you for your input and your unselfish contributions in helping others and myself to make this list so much fun to be the listowner. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
