Hi, all: My ggf Michael also came over from Ireland (County Clare) in 1847, at the age of about 27. The family lore is that he came through New York, perhaps worked on the Barge Canal, came to work on the railroad and made his way out to Dubuque, Iowa. In 1854 he bought a farm in Jackson County, Iowa, married a woman also from Clare (Ellen Howe, from Carrowduff near Miltown Malbay) in 1857 or 1858. There was a John Boyle who was a witness to the wedding at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin ... I'd love to be able to trace that John Boyle, or figure out where precisely in Clare Michael came from (I think around Quilty / Miltown Malbay) but that may be buried in the mists of time. My Web site (http://family.boyle.net) has a goodly amount of information about Boyles in Clare, including several Patrick Boyles, but it's pretty hard to nail connections down without more specifics. Best of luck to all, Alan Boyle -----Original Message----- From: Edward Boyle [mailto:ejboyle@olypen.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2003 3:25 PM To: BOYLE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Boyle] Re: Martin Boyle Brendan, I'm Ed Boyle, ggs of Patrick Boyle who came over from Ireland in 1847. My father was born in 1937, his brother in1941 and a sister born in 1948. Doesn't sound like a connection but how about that gap between brother and sister. War Time? I didn't say anything to my father about the time frame of the war but? My Father knows alot of history on the Boyle's. He was born in Ireland. If you would like to hear from him, send your e-mail address and I will get him to contact you. Brendan Boyle

The birth year or your grandfather is interesting and possibly fits in with the Martin Boyle I am trying to trace. So far this is positive. Would you happen to have any more details of his whereabouts during the army years?? What I do know is that the Martin Boyle I am trying to trace served either in the regular army or the National Guards - Westmorland Regiment of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers between 1941 and 1944 and was stationed in Kendal, Cumbria, England. These are the only known details I have. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards Angie

My grandfather's name is Martin Boyle born in 1911 in Ireland. He had 3 brothers (John, Pat, and Tom) and 2 sisters ( Margaret and Maryanne). He stayed in Ireland but most of his brothers and sister went to Boston, MA. Hope this helps and if it does please contact me. Thank You!
Ed, Did they have children in Ireland? From 1864 all birth's were registered in Ireland. If you know the dates of birth and names try finding them in the registration. That will tell you the exact place of birth. Jeanette O'Boyle
My Boyle's didn't arrive in Westport, NY until 1875.. My ggf worked on the D&H railroad as did his sons. My ggp are buried in the Catholic cemetary in back of the church. They lived in a house next to the church. They rented the house and later bought it in Jan. 1890 from Jane D Pierce. The house passed down through the family until the 1990's. It was painted green and flew the Irish flag.My ggp's had 15 children. As they grew up most married and moved away. A son Martin Henry Boyle and Johanna Boyle were the first to aquire the home in 1903.Martin was a Section Forman with D&H. I don't know if this will help you, I hope it does.I'm trying to locate where in Ireland my ggp's came from. My ggm was a Lynch.Good luck in your search. Ed Boyle. ps; I had relatives in Ticonderoga, Essex,Plattsburgh and several other towns through the area.
