    1. [BOYLE-L] Robert Boyle -- Chester Co., PA 1796-1881
    2. Chris K. Moore
    3. My earliest Boyle ancestor is a Robert Boyle, born, {according to a newspaper obituary in Chester Co., PA} in Gwynnedd twp., Montgomery Co., PA. He married Rebecca MacVeagh, daughter of Nathan and Rebecca (Thomas) MacVeagh, of Charlestown twp., Chester Co., PA. He does not seem to be associated with the Boyles of Coatesville in Chester Co., although it is very possible I'm wrong on that. His children were Ellen/Eleanor, (Anna?)Maria, Rebecca E., and Robert T. Boyle. Anyone know anything about him? Chris Moore [email protected]

    3. Owen, Merry Christmas. I would be interested in knowing if your John (the first) BOYLE had any siblings and if he had more children than the John (3) that you list. I have my BOYLE back to Jonathan BOYLE(S) & Elizabeth HUNT near the PA/VA state line in 1790. They then moved to Knox County, Ohio about 1806 and Jonathan died 1808 (have a copy of his will). History books state that they were natives of New Jersey, but no county is given. This is all the info I have on Jonathan. I am interested in finding who Jonathan's father was and where in New Jersey he came from. Nancy ---------- > From: Owen E. PLEASE check your mailboxes, especially those subbed to regular mode, because I am already getting a big increase in error messages due to full mailboxes ..... and after 3 errors the computer unsubs you. So if you are going to not read the messages for awhile, leave enough space in your mailbox to get them and then you can read everything while you are recovering from things! If you ever don't get a message from the list at all in 24 hours, you know something is wrong. You can write to me and ask if you are still subbed . Thanks! That alone will make it a lot easier for me so I won't have to check my mail as much. I hope all of you have safe and enjoyable holidays. I will be away for a few days and hopefully my mailbox won't overflow!

    3. Kathy: Don't know if there is any connection, but sometimes, when desperate, one has to grab at straws to find links! This is what I have: William BOLES/BOYLES b ca 1770-80/unknown county PA m Anna MARTIN (b 1794/Mercer Co KY) 1809/Butler Co OH. Their first born (that lived anyway) son they named Henry BOLES (b 1812/probably Butler OH), their second they named Llewellyn Martin BOLES (b 1814/OH) after Anna's father, Llewellyn MARTIN. William and Anna lived also in Marion Co IN and then Huntington Co IN where William died in 1837. Henry, their son, married ca 1834/Madison Co IN to Melinda CLAYPOOL; Llewellyn Martin was a physician and m 1st to Sarah SIMMONS 1836/Marion Co IN and 2nd to Catherine Annie LYON in 1849/Marshall Co IN. I think that the father of William BOLES may have been named Henry as that name does not appear in Anna's family at all, and thus he may have been named for William's side. I did find a Henry BOLES in Campbell Co KY which is close to the OH border where Butler and Preble are (Llewellyn MARTIN lived in Preble after he moved from Mercer Co KY and before he moved on to IN) ca 1810 who could be William's father-but, alas, have no proof on any of these speculations to date. Since your query contains both the names William and Henry BOYLE, I wonder if there could be any connection anywhere. Since I have no idea about William BOLES ancestry, it could very well be Irish. Thanks for checking! He married Catherine Donnelly, born March 25, 1858 also Co. Tyrone. They were R.Catholic and emigrated to the US and then on to Toledo, Ohio where they are both buried. There was talk of cousin Boyles in Hudson, Mi.. If anyone has possible information on the BOYLE family, please let me know! Thanks, MK Solt [email protected]

    3. I am looking for information about the following Boyle family that ended up in Michigan. Descendants of Thomas BOYLE - 5 Dec 1998 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- FIRST GENERATION 1. Thomas BOYLE was born in May 1854 in Ireland.1,2 He died after 1900. The 1900 Federal Census for Spring Lake Township, Ottawa County, Michigan shows the family of Thomas and Nora Boyle and their family of 8 sons. The census states that Nora is the mother of 10 children, 9 of whom are living. Because the oldest child in the home in this census is 24 years old and was born 2 years after the marriage in 1873, it is possible that the first born child is no longer living in the home. It is not known the name or sex of the child that has died at the time of this census. This census states that Nora, wife of Thomas, was born in Pennsylvania. The census also shows that Thomas had been a resident of the United States for 28 years and was a naturalized citizen. This tells us that his probable date of immigration was 1872. Because the census also states that Thomas and Nora had been married for 27 years, we have a probable marriage date of 1873. The Spring Lake Cemetery in Ottawa County, Michigan lists the following burials for the BOYLE name: Baby d April 18,1902 - Baby d April 11,1884 Charles March 8, 1883- May 11,1902 - this is obviously "Charley" child of Thomas and Nora Bertha July 20,1871-March 04, 1903 John, P. October 30,1875-January 18, 1907 The 1920 Illinois Census states that Thomas, father of Edward, was born in Ireland. As Edward is listed as having been born in Michigan in 1890, immigration must have taken place before that date. Because Nora, Thomas' wife is listed as having been born in Indiana, marriage probably took place there. He was married to Nora MELVIN. Nora MELVIN was born in May 1856 in Pennsylvania.3,4 She died after 1900. Thomas BOYLE and Nora MELVIN had the following children: 2 i. Michael BOYLE was born in Nov 1875 in Michigan.5 He was born in Nov 1875 in Michigan.6 3 ii. Joseph BOYLE was born in Jan 1877 in Michigan.5 He was born in Jan 1877 in Michigan.4 He was born in Jan 1877 in Michigan.6 4 iii. Thomas BOYLE was born in Sep 1880 in Michigan.5 He was born in Sep 1880 in Michigan.6 5 iv. Charley BOYLE was born on 8 Mar 1883 in Michigan.6 He died on 11 May 1902 in Spring Lake, Ottawa Co., Michigan. 6 v. Frank BOYLE was born in Jul 1885 in Michigan.5 He was born in Jul 1885 in Michigan.6 7 vi. George BOYLE was born in Oct 1887 in Michigan. He was born in Oct 1887 in Michigan. He was born in Oct 1887 in Michigan. +8 vii. Edward Melvin BOYLE. 9 viii. James BOYLE was born in Apr 1892 in Michigan.5 He was born in Apr 1892 in Michigan.6 SECOND GENERATION 8. Edward Melvin BOYLE was born on 6 Jan 1890 in Michigan.7,5 Edward was probably born in Spring Lake, Ottawa Co., Michigan. He died on 12 Feb 1973 in Mt. Carmel Hospital - Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.7 Per the Detroit Death index, Edward M. Boyle died 2-12-73, at age 82, in the city of Detroit. His address was listed as 16846 Suderland, Detroit, Michigan. The Social Security Death Index lists: EDWARD BOYLE Born: 6 Jan 1890 Died: Feb 1973 Last Known Address: 48219 (Detroit, Wayne, MI) 373-01-6004 Issued in Michigan Before 1951 Grandchildren believe Edward may have been born in either Grand Haven, Michigan or Grand Blanc, Michigan. While traveling across the border with him to his cabin in Canada, grandson Edward remembers him reporting his place of birth as either Grand Haven or possibly Grand Blanc, Michigan. The 1900 Federal Census for the family with Edward as a 10 year old child was found in Spring Lake Township, Ottawa Co., Michigan. Spring Lake Township includes the town of Grand Haven, thus a probable birth place for Edward. The 1920 Illinois Census lists Edward Boyle as head of household, who was 29 years old, born in Michigan married, his father born in Ireland and his mother born in Illinois. Listed as his wife is "Salla", age 27, born in Indiana and whose parents were born in Indiana, daughter Irena age 5, born in Indiana, going to school, daughter Virginia, age 4, born in Indiana and daughter, Lucille, age 1 born in Illinois. The 1935 Detroit City Directory lists Edward M. and Sarh M. Boyle, Irene M. and Virginia at 3751 Northwestern Avenue in Detroit. Per the Detroit Death index, Edward M. Boyle died 2-12-73, at age 82, in the city of Detroit. His address was listed as 16846 Suderland, Detroit, Michigan. Edward's immediate cause of death was pneumonia although heart disease was a contributing medical condition. Per the Detroit Death index, Edward M. Boyle died 2-12-73, at age 82, in the city of Detroit. His address was listed as 16846 Suderland, Detroit, Michigan. He was married to Sarah Margaret PRICE about 1912. Sarah Margaret PRICE was born about 1893 in Indiana.8,9 She died before 12 Feb 1973. Edward Melvin BOYLE and Sarah Margaret PRICE had the following children: +10 i. Irene BOYLE. 11 ii. Virginia BOYLE was born about 1916 in Indiana.1 Virginia is listed as "Miss Virginia Boyle" in her father's obituary 12 iii. Lucille BOYLE was born about 1919 in Illinois.1 Lucille is listed as "Miss Lucille Boyle" in her father's obituary +13 iv. Edward Francis BOYLE. +14 v. Mary BOYLE. THIRD GENERATION 10. Irene BOYLE was born about 1915 in Indiana.3 She was born about 1915 in Indiana.10 She was married to Harod KUPFER. 13. Edward Francis BOYLE was born on 18 Aug 1920 in Calumet City, Illinois.11,12 He died on 9 Nov 1966 in Botsford General Hospital, Farmington Twp., Wayne Co., Michigan.13 The Social Security Death Index lists: EDWARD BOYLE 18 Aug 1920 Nov 1966 382-18-2735 Issued in Michigan Before 1951 Edward's home address at the time of his death was 17156 Winthrop. An obituary found in The Detroit News, Thursday, 10 Nov 1966 states: BOYLE, Edward F. Nov 9 - Dear father of Barbara, Edward, Larry, Billy and Stephen. Son of Edeard M. Boyle, brother of Mrs. Irene Kupfer, Virginia and Lucille Boyle and Mrs. Mary Gentile. Funeral from Ted C. Sullivan Funeral Home, 12330 W. McNichols Rd Saturday morning at 10:30 and from St. Mary of Redford Church at 11:15. An obituary found the following day in the Detroit News states the same with the addition of "Husband of Joyce"..... Edward's death record states that he was born in Chicago, Illinois. But, a copy of his SS-5, Application for a Social Security Account Number states that he was born in Calumet City, Illinois. Because the infoormation from the SS-5 was actually provided by Edward himself, it is probably more accurate information. Edward died of a myocardial infarction (heart attack). He was apparently dead on arrival at the Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Township. Joyce PILSON (daughter of Will PILSON and Ann) was born on 3 Apr 1924 in England. Edward Francis BOYLE and Joyce PILSON had the following children: 15 i. Edward F. BOYLE. 16 ii. Barbara BOYLE. 17 iii. Larry BOYLE. 18 iv. Billy BOYLE. 19 v. Stephen BOYLE. 14. Mary BOYLE. John BOYLE b. unknown d. unknown m. around 1829 Bridget QUIRK - fairly certain but handwriting on Christopher's death record is hard to decipher. Based on marriage timeframe, I estimate John's birth between 1795-1808 and Bridget 1800-1810. I know of no other siblings to Christopher at this time. Christopher was living in Ann Arbor, MI at some point as his marriage record to Caroline SHEARER states he is "of" Ann Arbor. Christopher Stephen BOYLE b. DEC 25, 1829 NY d. 3. Hi Bill, Do you know the approximate birthyear of your gggf Christopher Stephen Boyle? Also, any guess where he was born? Also what about John, his father? Born ca 1850? Was he from Ireland? These answers might get you some connections. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pat (Patraigin) Connors, California Siochain Leat (peace be with you) Researching: Connors/O'Connor, McEntee, Campbell, Flynn/O'Flynn, Smith, Phillips, Carter, Boyle, O'Rourke, Healey, Cullinan, Hoare, Todd, Owen, Booth http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/n/Pat-Connors/ mailto:[email protected] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    3. Pamela Wagoner has been trying to post to this list but is having problems doing so. She has sent me her posts to post for her. If you reply, please don't reply to me but to Pam at: [email protected] 11/25 : This is my 3rd try to get this message on the list. I still haven't seen it come through, but if it has somehow I sincerely apologize. I have unsubscribed and resubscribed in attempt to get the list to know me if it is set only for postings from subscribers. Could someone kindly inform me if this goes through? 11/24: I sent this to the list before but I never saw it posted. If it did show up, please excuse the double-send. 11/19: This family line sounds like many other Boyle family lines....brickwalled.
