    1. [BOYLE-L] Listowner hello
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Hi all, We have gone over the 100 mark this week and maybe it is time again to do a roll call. I'll start with mine: Looking for connections for John Boyle, b 1798 in Kilkenny, Ireland, migrated to Thorald, Canada. Married Jane Booth, also from Kilkenny. I would also like to offer the chance for anyone who has a BOYLE website to advertise it at the bottom of any message posted on the list. So far, only two subscribers have taken me up on the offer. I also will do look ups on the Griffiths Valuations, LDS British Isles Vital Records Index, LDS Australian Vital Records Index and the LDS North American Index. Please just give me the name and the cd that you want searched. When I get a lot, it is too much to read a whole family history and if your request is too wordy, I will just delete it. If you would put "Look up - ???" in subject it would help me. ??? is what cd you want searched. For example: Look up-British Isles. I must warn you I only do these look ups on the weekend, however. Happy hunting to all of you, Pat.

    1. [BOYLE-L] John BOYLE and Robert WELCH, Fisticuffs, Brown Co OH, 1840
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Researchers of the BOYLE Surname, A book of court records of Brown County, Ohio included the intriguing case of one John BOYLE and Robert WELCH, who were found guilty of engaging in fisticuffs in Perry Township, Brown County, Ohio and were fined. The date was 1 Sep 1840. The obvious question is: Who was this John BOYLE? I am researching TWO John BOYLEs, either of whom could have been the pugnacious John BOYLE whose swings connected with the long arm of the law. My two candidates: 1. John BOYLE, born 1825, Garrard County, Kentucky. The 1840 Census recorded John BOYLE's parents in Clinton County, Indiana, but did NOT include their son John. By 1850, the whole family was living in Lewis County, Kentucky, on the Ohio River, almost directly across the river from Perry Township, Brown County, Ohio. 2. John BOYLE, born about 1798 in PA, married Sitha CAIN in 1834, Greenup County, Kentucky. Was a shoemaker. Please let me know if you have identifying information on the John BOYLE of the 1840 fist-fight. Thanks! Randal W. Cooper <[email protected]> Lorain, Ohio

    1. [BOYLE-L] Mabel C. Jenkins Boyle
    2. I am looking for information on Mabel C. Jenkins Boyle. She was born on July 4, 1889 in Deep River, Poweshiek County, Iowa. She died in January of 1985 in California. I think Nevada City, California. I am not positive about that. I don`t have a lot of information on her. I know she married an A.B. Boyle. They lived in Iowa, Colorado and California. I also do not know if they had any children. Anyone with information on Mabel, please contact me at [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks! ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 1. [BOYLE-L] BOYLE in Philadelphia, Pa.
    2. John Mellon
    3. I have a Samuel Boyle (age 20) who with wife Catherine McAuley (21) arrived in New York City from Ireland in 1850 and in 1851 the family joined two Boyle brothers, names unknown in Philadelphia. All were stonecutters, reportedly from Donegal.(Note: Possible names for one unknown brother is "William). Samuel and Catherine had two sons, John J. born 1851 in N.Y. and William D. born 1852 in Philadelphia. John J. Boyle became a famous American sculptor noted in Philadelphia for his statue of Ben Franklin now on U. of P. campus. William D. Boyle, my grandfather owned several taverns in South Philadelphia. Looking for Boyle's in Philadelphia or elsewhere who may be relatives of the two elusive brothers or any Boyle who thinks he may be related to this line. John Mellon

    2. My grandmother came from Ireland in the 1890's. Her sisters were Josephine Boyle, Claire Boyle, Anna Boyle and Mary Ellen Boyle. She met my grandfather, James J. Hesson and married. He was a restaurant manager for Child's restaurant. Then opened a restaurant of his own. They lived in Newark, West Orange, and Kearny, N.J. Supposedly Winifred died in 1932 although someone in N.J. could not find a death certificate that year. Does any one have any more info on this family?

    3. I know very little about my wife's Boyle line. John C. Boyle was born about 1842 in Randolph, MA. He had a brother William T. Boyle who was born around 1839 in MA. John C. Boyle married Margaret Farley around 1867. She was born around 1845 in Ireland, but I don't know where. John C. and Margaret had had at least six children: John T. (b. 1867, Mass), Michael F. (b. 1869, Randolph, Mass), Joseph (b. 1872, Mass), Catherine (b. 1874), Rosanna F. (b. 1876), and William (b. 1879). Michael F. Boyle married Ellen T. Callahan (b. 1873, Weymouth, MA) and they had a single child, Joseph Francis Boyle, b. 1904 in Randolph, MA. Joseph Francis Boyle married Alma Ross and they had a single child as well: Joseph Francis Boyle, Jr. I would love to flesh out all of these lines, especially the Boyles. From census reconds, most of the Boyles for a long time were shoe and bootmakers in Randolph, which had a number of shoe factories. I would especially like to find where in Ireland they hailed from. Any help is appreciated. --SCott ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Dickson [email protected] Sun Microsystems (770) 360-6442 Systems Engineer, Atlanta, GA

    1. [BOYLE-L] PATRICK BOYLE
    2. Steve Reiter
    3. Hello: I'm looking for info on PATRICK BOYLE born in Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He was the youngest of 5 children: EDWARD "NEDDY", BRIDGET, CHARLES, ISABELLE, and PATRICK. I don't know their parents' names but I know I the father owned and operated a linen mill that wove damask linen table cloths. The mother died first and then the father. Neddy took over control of the mill. Politics being what they were at the time and the family being Catholic, Neddy decided to sell the mill and move the whole family to the USA. In 1840, the Boyle siblings arrived in New York. I don't know if that's New York State or New York City. Bridget married PATRICK MCDONALD/O'DONNEL. Patrick was a policeman. They stayed in New York. Isabella married PATRICK MURPHY. They had 3 sons: EDWARD, PATRICK, and JOHN MURPHY. The elder Patrick Murphy worked on the ships going up and down the Mississippi River and he died in a unloading accident in St. Louis-MO just months before the birth of John. Neddy, Charles, Patrick, and Isabella and sons travelled on to Ilinois by way of the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes ending in the Galena-Scales Mounds area. They owned land in Woodbine-Jo Daviss-IL. Patrick married ALICE BOYLE (no relation) about 1860 in Scales Mound-IL. She was the daughter of OWEN and MARY BOYLE who were tailors that moved to the area from Philadelphia-PA. Patrick died in Scales Mound-IL on 11-DEC-1879. Alice died in Le Mars-Plymouth-IA. Patrick and Alice had 11 children: ELIZABETH "LIZZIE" BOYLE, OWEN BOYLE, CORNELIUS "CON" BOYLE, MARY BOYLE, ISABELLE BOYLE, ALICE BOYLE, DELIA BOYLE, PATRICK JOSEPH BOYLE, JOHN BOYLE, CHARLES BOYLE (infant), and CHARLES BOYLE. All were born in IL. In 1889 the Patrick and Alice Boyle family moved to Le Mars-Plymouth-IA and many family members remained there. Can anyone help me? Please e-mail me at [email protected] Thank You! Theresa Sherrill Reiter IA-USA [email protected]

    1. [BOYLE-L] [Steamboat] Captain John BOYLE [1825-1901]
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Researchers of the BOYLE Surname, Having just subscribed to the BOYLE Mailing List, I will describe my reason for joining. John BOYLE was born in Garrard County, Kentucky in 1825, a son of Samuel BOYLE and Barzilla MURPHY. From about 1833 to about 1843, Samuel BOYLE made a go of it in Clinton County, Indiana, during which time his son John BOYLE was NOT always at home with his parents, and may have been "working the River". About 1843, Samuel BOYLE returned to Kentucky, to Lewis County, on the Ohio River. John BOYLE, wherever he was before that, appeared in his parents' home in the 1850 Census of Lewis County, Kentucky. John BOYLE was enumerated in the 1860 and 1870 Censuses of Quincy, Lewis County, Kentucky. In 1860, John BOYLE was a "Tradesman" in partnership with Henry MCKEE. John BOYLE married Catherine HACKWORTH about 1865, and they had a son Samuel. Sometime before 1870, Captain John BOYLE took my third-great grandfather William COOPER into his home and looked after him. Mr. COOPER had been wounded in the Civil War. About 1875, John BOYLE moved to Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio, and set up as a saloon-keeper. In March of 1880, John BOYLE was one of two witnesses to my ancestor William COOPER's Invalid Pension Application. John BOYLE died in 1901, and was buried in Ironton, Ohio. His obituary stated that he had been a STEAMBOAT CAPTAIN in antebellum days, but did not mention the rivers or vessels associated with Captain John BOYLE's steamboat days. If you have researched Captain John BOYLE, or could lead me to more information on his steamboat days, or on his son Samuel BOYLE after 1880, please contact me! Thank you so much. I do appreciate it. 1. [BOYLE-L] Boyle / County Clare / IRE
    2. A/T Boyle
    3. I'm trying to track down the origins and parentage of my greatgrandfather Michael Boyle (and my greatgrandmother Ellen Howe). The Howes apparently came from around Miltown Malbay in County Clare, so I'm assuming that's the general region for Michael as well. Lately I've been trying to catalog Boyles and Howes from Kilmurry Ibrickan parish, since both surnames were represented in that area. Michael emigrated from Clare in 1847, Ellen perhaps at the same time. Family lore indicates that Michael arrived at New York, perhaps worked on the canal system and then railroads, came to settle around Dubuque, Iowa, about 1852, bought a 160-acre homestead in Jackson County, Iowa, in 1853, married Ellen at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis., in 1857 (John Boyle was listed as a witness), settled on the homestead near Garryowen, Jackson County, in 1858. There may have been some cousins who came to Dubuque around 1855... Mary Corry, a widow, plus young men named Michael and John Boyle, plus a young widowed woman listed as M. Boyle, with two children named John and Mary. After the 1856 census I've lost track of them. I've put some Boyle information, particularly about my family and the Clare connection, at http://family.boyle.net. So if you have any hints to add, particularly about Boyles or Howes in County Clare, I'd appreciate hearing.
