    2. Does anyone have BOYLE in Co. Limerick in the time frame of 1798? My ggggfather, John BOYLE (II) was supposedly born there Jan 6, 1798. His father John BOYLE (I) was taken by a pressgang in 1799 and never seen or heard from again. At that time, John (II) and his mother, Nora McLaughlin, moved to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary to live in her brother's (Fr. McLaughlin) home. In 1822, John BOYLE (II) m. Bridget QUIRK of Toomyvara, Co. Tipperary and in 1825 with 2 sons immigrated to NYC. Bridget QUIRK was the daughter of Daniel Quirk and Molly Hogan. John (II) was the only BOYLE to come as he was the only line living from this particular family. I have located descendents of all John's and Bridget's children who married and had children. There may be cousins and that is why I'm trying to go back beyond this point and would like to contact anyone who seems to have ancestors from this particular area. Bill Boyle

(No details as to what was sacrificed, or if it was eaten afterward. However, I think some nice Atlantic salmon would go well, Ay) In 1803 Robert Emmett, Irish patriot, captured.(Curtis spells it Emmet). He lead an insurrection which was a shadow of 1798 and which lead him to the gallows. Thomas Moore wrote a poem about him. This execution apparently had an deep effect on Irish political sentiment "far beyond any act of Parliament or political event." FYI William Wallace's horrible execution took place on 23 August, 1305. On 24 August 1565 the Earl of Marray rebelled against Mary Quenn of Scots. he failed. On 24 August, 1803 James Napper Tandy, irish patriot, died in exile in France. Check out lyrics of the Wearin' of the Green. He was the hero of the democratic movement in Dublin. The American and French revolutions had a great influence on people like Napper Tandy. Submitted by John Laughland

    3. do' fiche Lunasa, De' Domhnaigh( 22 August, Sunday), or in Cornish, deu ugans Est, De Sul In 1847 Alexander Campbell Mackenzie, Scottish composed, conductor and violinist, was born. In 1922 Michael Collins, Irish general, was killed. Collins had been one of a small group that negotiated a treaty with the English Prime Minister Lloyd George in 1921. Although Ireland was to be self-governed, it was going to be a dominion of the British Empire. De Valera opposed the treaty although the Irish legislature, the Dail Eireann accepted it by a majority vote. The pro-Treaty people were called Free Staters and the anti Treaty people where called Republicans. Collins became the Minister of Finance under the new Irish government. During the early part of 1922 the factions drifted into civil war. Collins and De Valera signed a pact just before the election in June. Collins by then was Commander-in-Chief of the Free State forces. He was killed in an ambush in Cork. Submitted by John Laughland
