I am looking for information on the WilliamBoyle and Margaret Hegley Boyle family of Lynn, Essex County, Mass. They were both deceased by1936. Their daughter, Catherne was born in 1914. I have been told they were from County Cork, Ireland, but have no proof. Thanks. Miriam Klar
There are increasingly messages with signatures of longer than 4 lines. These are not only bad netiquette but also take up valuable space at rootsweb archives. Rootsweb has asked us to remind posters and I have been negligent in my duty of listowner up to now. I ask you all to look at your signature and if it is in excess of 4 lines then please trim it or rearrange it. If you put your research names in your signature and it goes over the 4 lines then please ensure that they are relevant only to our list when you post messages to the it and likewise for other mailing lists. People who do not comply with this voluntarily will be unsubscribed until they do so after one reminder off list from me...I am happy to help you rearrange your signatures offlist if you want me to. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
Is anyone on the list researching the Boyle families of Northumberland? Ellen (nee Boyle) Melbourne, Australia
The following are notes taken from the book called Joe Boyle the Canadian hero. -Plain Boyles are more likely to be Anglo-Irish & Protestant, their association with Ireland dating back to the first Elizabeth. -Most Boyles like to think they spring from Richard, the English adventurer who landed in Ireland in the Armada Year of 1588. -The fallen Sir Walter Raleigh, to whose estates near Cork he fell heir, & reached the ducal pinnacle as Earl of Cork. - From that line established in Cork came Robert Boyle, the great chemist & physicist, & it may well have been the source of another family of Boyles who settled at The Burnside, Upper Buckna, near Broughshane, County Antrim, at the end of the 17th century. - The first Burnside Boyles were several of the seven brothers. -1798 eighty-year-old head of the Boyle family, Charles, survived for another decade to help raise a brood of 3 female & 7 male grandchildren. All but 2 of the 7 grandsons emigrated to N.A., most of them settling in Canada. - 20 years before the Potato Famine, the Buckna (1825-29) Boyles settled in Ontario. - The oldest Boyle son, who inherited the family acreage by custom, remained in Ireland. One of his sons emigrated to the US & lived long enough in Wilmington, Delaware to sire an American born son before returning to Ireland in 1876. - Among the brother settling in Upper Canada was David Boyle, a first-born son, Charles in 1839 who lived 80 years. He married Martha Bain of Hamilton, Ontario she was born in Dumfries, Scotland. In 10 years 3 boys & a girl were born in Toronto; David, Charles, Joseph & Susan. Joseph (Joe) was born November 6, 1867. - They moved to a farm in nearby Newmarket. In 1872 they moved to Woodstock, 85 miles from Toronto. * Please Note that this is all the information about the family history of Joe Boyle. The rest of the book goes on about what a hero Joe Boyle was. There is no more mention about Joes family or relations so I can not answer any questions about this.

Here is my only BOYLE .. century old family notes say she was from county TYRONE. I notice you have a "Ted" ... sometimes a short form of Thaddeus ... one of the children in this family. I have VERY little info on this family. Luckily, they show up in two US census .. 1840 in Smithfield, Providence, RI and in 1850 in nearby Pawtucket, Bristol, MA. I have been unable to locate the right family in the 1830 PA census. The 1840 & 1850 census tell a tale of hardship ... three daughters, Elizabeth, Margaret, & mary were all deaf. That is an indicator of probable terrible living conditions... not uncommon for the Irish of the time. The census also shows a pattern of constant migration from Ireland to Scotland to PA then NY, CT, RI, MA. They stayed in the same town from 1850 on ... just the area itself changed from MA to RI control. Pawtucket. Descendants of Agnes Boyle 1 Agnes "Nancy" BOYLE b: Abt. I am looked for information on the children of James Boyle, born around 1815, and his wife, Mary McGuigan, born in l838, both of them from County Tyrone, Ireland. I think James was born in the town of Tumpher. They had eight children which included two sets of twins. James died January 31, l903 and his wife, Mary, died November 13, l891. One set of twins was named Ned and Ted. No other information. The other set of twins were Peter and Paul and were born in l867. Peter married a girl named Mary Campbell. Peter and Mary's children were Patrick, Catherine, Theresa and a son also named Peter who came to Pittsburgh, PA. There was also a son, James and a daughter Cecilia who I think was born around l860. No other information. Daughter Elizabeth married a man by the name of Quinn. Their son, Pete, also came to the United States and married a girl named Ella. They lived in Pittsburgh. Another son, William James, was born in l868 in County Tyrone. They must have lived near the lake Lough Neagh North for the story goes that he swam there as a boy. William came to Pittsburgh, PA in l893 where he met his future wife, Brigid (Della) Lyons from County Kerry. Can anyone add to this???
I have noticed a lot of requests with the name Hugh. This name is very common in my Boyle family line. My ggrandfather, James Boyle, was born in Belfast in 1812 and came to Canada c1840. He named one of his sons Hugh, however he died in a fire and my grandfather, the last of the children was named Hugh. I have no information on my James BOYLE, no siblings or parents, but just curious as Hugh is also common in my other Irish lines.. Any answer why Hugh was quite a popular name. Don J Boyle Brantford Ontario, Canada Armstrong, Boyle, Corbett, Merriam, Thompson, Magarrell, Alford, Cooke, Went
I saw the name Hugh Boyle mentioned in early 1800 in Wash. Co., Pa. and have always felt he was a brother or cousin of our Philemon Boyle born abt. 1769. Have never found proof. If my memory is correct, Hugh had a daughter that married into the Blaine family (but not positive). Does that sound familiar to anyone? We believe that Philemon Boyle came from County Donegal but that is just tradition and not proof. Virginia
James' (1701-1758) wife Sarah's last name is unclear and not proven. At various times I've been lead to think she was a Swearingen, but also have the names Dossett and Morgan. She may have also been married to a Isaac Pierce. I have Stephen's (1728-1819) wife Martha's (1753-1823) last name as Campbell and will have to see if I have anything on her parents. Byrnes is new to me. What information do you have on that name. I still am trying to get back before Frederick County with no luck. I havent worked on this for some time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Almeda Lappin" <alappin@webtv.net> To: <BOYLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 11:05 PM Subject: Re: [Boyle] Henry Boyll and Sarah Parks > Yes, I descend from James of Frederick County through his son Stephen > who died in Kentucky and Stephen's son James who died in Missouri and > was husband of Jane Forman and their son James Thomas Campbell Boyle > who was called Tom. Thanks Ed, I know there was a Hugh Boyle who was in Wash. Co. in early 1800's also. Virginia
Dear John, Thanks for your info. It sounds as though we are probably from the same "tree" but not the same branch. I find it interesting that the repetition of names sometimes sig- nifies a closer link family wise. I do know that my Thomas Boyle was born here in the US and grew up in Brooklyn. Can you go back farther than 1910? Look forward to hearing from you again. Sincerely, Michelle A. Connelly (nee) Boyle
Yes, I descend from James of Frederick County through his son Stephen who died in Kentucky and Stephen's son James who died in Missouri and was husband of Jane Forman and their son James Thomas Campbell Boyle who was called Tom. Tom's daughter Martha Elizabeth Boyle married William Wiley Dickerson and their son was my father James Estel Dickerson. I have questions. The wife of James of Frederick County was Sarah. Was she a Swearingen or was she a Stephens? Stephen's wife was Martha. Who were her parents? Was she a Byrnes?

Bernie, I am tracing my Boyle line from Ireland, but they came to Scotland. However it is possible that siblings went to Canada or America. Does the book say where in Ireland they originated? and could you give me the name of the book. The first Boyle I have is a Charles Boyle born about 1805 in Donegal Ireland, married to a Helen Gallacher/Gallagher/Gallocher in Ireland. I know of three children all born in Ireland Ann, Mary and James ( my ggrandfather). The male family names that have come down the line are John, William, James, Robert and Thomas. Hope you don't mind me butting in.
