Surnames: Boyle McCracken Schumo Croissant Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nVF.2ACIB/778 Message Board Post: I have hit a brick wall on my Boyle family in Pennsylvania. My Great-grandfather is Herbert Randall Bayle who married Estelle Schumo. Herbert's surname has been listed as Boyle in census records. I have Herbert's mother's maiden name as Maggie I. McCracken, but I can't find his father's name anywhere. Herbert and his wife, Estelle were born in Pennsylvania, but later moved to New Jersey. Herbert was born in 1891. He was an advertising agent for a shoe sales company. I have the names of Estelle's parents as Daniel Mansfield Schumo and Anna W. Croissant. The Schumo family was in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA in the 1920 census. Additional information that I have is that the immigrant ancestor came from Ireland and was called Patrick O'Boyle. I am not sure how many generations passed between Patrick's immigration and Herbert's birth. Any connections? If not, does anyone have the index to the 1910 census who could do a look-up on the surname Boyle or Bayle? -Marjorie :)

    1. [Boyle] RE: Inclusion in SSDI
    2. 1) From what I have found for an individual to be included in the SSDI, there had to be a death benefit paid. I have found a number of persons who I know died in the 1950s and 1960s who have SSNs but are not in the SSDI. 2) If the individual retired prior to about 1955 and was in a number of professions including govt civil service, he/she may not have had SS. I had an granduncle who was an attorney who never had SS. 3) As late as 1983, someone working in civil service could choose that retirement system and opt out of SS, at least that is what I was offered when I was selected for a position with the Texas Extension Service back then. 3. Time for a few reminders: 1. Subject headings: If you are on the digest, please remember when replying, to change the subject of your post to reflect the subject of your message. If you have ever used the archives and want to do a search on the subject, you lose a lot of info if they are mis-labeled. More importantly, if you are looking for connections, you won't find them. 2. Unsubscribing: If you send a message to the list to unsubscribe, I can assure you, you will NOT be unsubbed from the list and your ability to post to the list in the future will be lost. If you join a new list, keep your welcome message, it tells you how to unsub properly. If you are on Digest, the directions are in each digest. It always amazes me how someone can manage to subscribe to a list but then can't figure out how to unsub! 3. http://lists.rootsweb.com Bookmark this site. This is were you can go to unsub, sub, change your subscription from L to D or D to L. It is also a convenient place to search or browse the archives of any list. Just go to the list and you will see all the options that are available to you. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
